  • Thank you unixgirluk Glad I am not being totally thick then :o
I'm very lucky I still have a lot of choice where I live, although if I think about it, even here the choices are starting to diminish slowly. And it still doesn't make it right
Sorry I'm having a 'bit of a day' - I have thrown books on the floor in temper (no reason really) and then cried a bit (sad about innocent people caught up in riots). And I can't even blame PMT :rotfl:

This is the concern (yes I am a Scottish poster), I have an online delivery due shortly (not been out due to bereavement) so it will be interesting to see what they actually deliver and what I'm charged. I know Asda charge different prices in different stores here depending on the geography but I am worried that people will be lured away from the 'farmers markets', grocers and to a certain extent places like Aldi's and Home Bargains and Poundland (the last two I have noticed keeping more chilled items in the last few months) causing these stores to suffer and possibly shut shop and move elsewhere. I've seen it happen with Lidl's where I am that our nearest 3 Lidl stores are price-wise on a par with the upper-market stores which makes it a false economy for the people its supposed to help. Its only once this choice is gone, we'll not only feel the pinch but have to carefully choose items according to our budget and it won't always be the healthier ones.

Ah, right, I can see the concern there...

    Hi,
Where I live here we have a smallish tesco 50 miles one way (near where I work one day a week) and a bigger one 36 miles the other way - both over an hour's drive. Neither really have much of a choice, so not really where I purchase most of my food. I'm like red doe in that we have no-one who delivers here, and we are surcharged for being in the highlands and islands for other deliveries of non-food items. I'd love to find a supplier of ambient vegan produce who would deliver here - we use vegan cheese for my son and have to drive a round trip of 80 miles to purchase it - no option to buy in bulk because the only receive a small delivery, and no option for them to order in bulk because the delivery van is full! I haven't used AP as although I think they may deliver here, for a price, we cannot eat anything with dairy/eggs in it, and its really hard to tell what the ingredients of things are.

We use local shops for 90% of our groceries, shopping weekly in the traditional way. I have a small store-cupboard for emergency use in bad weather, ill health etc. It seems to be just as cost effective as our former practice of stock-piling - we eat a traditional diet with smaller amounts of meat and bigger amounts of veggies and carbs - with puddings and soup for starters.

I would love to be able to have groceries delivered by one of the major supermarkets - the value brands do seem a lot cheaper!

What about trying a shop such as Holland & Barrett. Just had a look and they are offering free UK delivery for offers over £40 at the moment and seem to ship to the Highlands without any extra cost.

Spider had a wee look - thanks for letting me know about this - they don't deliver ambient food but do have quite a few of the dry goods we buy that are dairy/egg free. Shall place an order definitely - they have lots of dried fruit and nuts as well, which is a bonus. Shall have to keep looking for an online seller of vegan cheese slices!!!!!

Now I'm imagining a world where all over the country there are places having a "weekly wonky food day" where all the strange-looking but perfectly good food is gathered together for the non-fussy to buy!!
    btw I am sober :rotfl:

This brings back memories of That's Life in the 80's with Esther Rantzen and the odd shaped veg section of the show

Can you get seeds and nuts from Approved Foods ?
Yes, sometimes! In my most recent order (last week) I got 9 x 100g bags of a "natural 7 seed mix" - really nice, I have been adding them to HM bread, and sprinkling them over things - they were reduced to 33p each. Bargain..... I think AF is definitely worth keeping an eye on, as there are some yummy things tucked in with all the processed carp.
