The Rising Cost of Food

I have noticed the odd healthy item "amongst all the processed carp" as you put it - hence keeping an eye on Approved Foods wondering whether they will get a higher proportion of healthy foods amongst what they sell as time goes on.
How does one pay for any purchases from them? - given that I am very concerned about paying for anything on line. Hence I only buy things from Amazon in their standard way. If I want anything from any other firm - then regardless of whether they only accept online payments - I look up their address and send them a cheque for what I want (and have never had a firm refuse to do business that way yet - they have universally taken the cheque and sent the required goods).0 -
I have ordered from them Ceridwen, you do have to search for the healthier stuff but it is often 'there'
I pay with Paypal..their checkout system gives you the choice of paypal or card. Never had any problems with them so far. I even got my order delivered for the 'down south' delivery price last time, before I was paying double to have it delivered here.
In amongst my last order were nuts and seeds, granola, oats and various other foods that I'd be more than happy to buy in any shop."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -

Thanks for that.
Errr...can I have an Idiots Guide to Paypal please? - and is it totally safe against online hackers and the like?0 -
can only speak for myself, but I've never had a problem with it and it does seem to be safe and secure.
You register with them by setting up an account with your bank card details. They then use your bank card to pay for goods and the bonus is they never share your account info with the seller.
Been using it for about four years now and the only problem I ever had was my own fault for thinking a scam 'paypal' email was from them, and clicking on a link, doh! Paypal, like banks, will never ask for any of your private info in an email, you see.
I learned my lesson, and just report any scam emails to them and ignore them, doing all my paypal business through their official site.
Hope this helps. So many business seem to want paypal these days and it really does make it easier for me, but of course you must look at it and decide for yourself.
ETA they don't charge you a penny for buying anything, but do charge if you sell on Ebay or the like."Ignore the eejits...it saves your blood pressure and drives `em nuts!"0 -

The drawback to paying AF by cheque as you suggest is that they have a pretty quick turnover, and by the time your cheque had cleared they might well have sold out of the food you wanted .....0 -
Thanks for that.

No sadly its not totally safe. My account somehow got hacked and lots of payments went out over one night (all at around $20)
On the plus side, paypal had noticed before me (it was an overnight thing and pretty much sorted by the time i logged in next am and realised) and blocked the account. They also sorted the whole thing immediately and returned my money no questions very promptly.
Therefore despite the hack, I have happily continued using paypal

I've never had a problem and I've used paypal for years now. The very few instances of things going wrong I have heard of have been dealt with very quickly and efficiently (as the_cat has experienced). I would recommend signing up ceridwen and come back to us if you have any hassles, I'm sure we can talk you through it!!

You can setup PayPal so that it uses your mobile as a security key. In order to login a six digit code is texted to you which you then have to input onto the site.0

When I was in full-time work I used to order these boxes. I gave it up as the price became too expensive and I went back to cheap supermarket stuff. But now I'm thinking of seeing what is on offer round here and maybe signing up again; even if it is a bit pricier at least I would know where it's come from and that it is not going to be binned just because it doesn't look perfect
And yes I did enjoy not knowing what was coming and then having to find a suitable recipe. I think this is more about me being lazy, and indecisive when shopping though
Sorry for jumping in on the thread but can I suggest a company bonnie-bumpkins? I have a veg box delivered every week and I realised the other day that it is coming up for nearly 2 years since I first started using them. The company I use is Riverford, who are based in Devon, but deliver all over the country. I do have a veg person that deals with my area of Kent and they are brilliant. They collect all the veg within 24 hours of the order being placed and deliver it all fresh and lovely, and are brilliant if you aren't in etc..
Back off to read the thread thoroughly now before I post again..

I too use Riverford. I find it actually much cheaper than doing a supermarket shop. A veg box can last me two weeks.0
