In my town we have branches of the major 4 supermarkets, MrT I don't use any more, mainly for ethical reasons, but also it's an absolute dive, really poor quality fruit/veg & quite high prices compared with other companies. MrA/MrM I visit rarely, out of my way & I always just miss the bargains! Use MrS most, DS works there so we get staff discount so it saves us a little, but I'm increasingly using the shops in our village. Although they're dear, I only buy the stuff I actually need therefore spend less because I'm not sucked in by "special offers" IFSWIM, & our butcher sells good quality meat, mostly local (at least within our county), can get rabbits cheaply, you can buy very small amounts rather than having to buy tons at once. I never buy brands anywhere unless they're on offer at less than own brands (virtually never!) and don't often buy extras that I can make (biccies, cakes, etc.) Although our income isn't too bad (£1600 a month total for 3 adults, 1 small child & a toddler) the proportion of it going on food & energy is going up week by week, and I'm quickly reverting to all the tricks I used when our older children were little.
My sister lives in the States & even she's gone back to coupon clipping for groceries & is using her tumble drier less often - that's unheard of out there, where almost everyone uses one; you're considered a hippy or dirt poor if you peg out!

Did an online shop last night with Mr T's (not up to going out at the moment), and was VERY surprised at some of the prices. 18p for 1 kg of rice, 20p (ish) for peanut butter etc...... I couldn't believe it. I can't see how these prices are sustainable. The items still have to be delivered today so we'll see what they ACTUALLY deliver.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0
