Hi Boatie .... I know what you mean! I now look at my hubby with pity when he's outside having a smoke, especially the last few days, the weather has been awful and he's still stood out there!

I was fine til yesterday, i've just about lost my voice  It's either a high pitch squeak or I sound like Jade's mum

If he's choosing to smoke he's choosing to be outside, well that's what I try to tell myself when DP moans it's freezing, it's cutting down what he smokes being so windy anyway lol would have been a different story in summer!

I'm still hanging on in here, no heartburn thankfully, hard when I am stood with other smokers, I smashed my keyring today playing with it in my pocket when stood with them, I was squeezing it a bit too hard.
One day I might be more organised...........

I have just started coughing, and I am on day 8, but It will probably vary for each person.

The coughing isn't that bad, but the heartburn is!

    It hurts like hell!

Luckily found the last packet of Rennies in my local shop so had a little relief :)

  • Just wanted to say that I am really happy for all the people who have joined this thread and are trying hard to quit, I am sure there are lurkers here also who are having a go, I wish you all the best in your fight ;)

On a good note, my smoking quitathon has encouraged my brother to stop and also his heavily pregnant wife.

She was told by the midwife she couldn't have patches because of the baby so she carried on smoking, putting all that poison into her and the babys body  .

She is now trying the willpower method and I wish her, and anyone else who is trying to quit, success!

Just want to say congratulations to you all. Reading all the various stages and thoughts has kick started me again. Particularly looking at others smoking and starting to feel sorry for them rather than envious. I want to be the one that's not smoking !

Tried twice last year Allen Carr method worked for me all be it only four months, got his second book and trying again.
I really really want to stop for good.

Can I ask what actually triggered you to start again? (If you can remember)
I am feeling really positive about me stopping with the help of Allen Carr, but I guess I am a little worried about how I will feel 4 or 5 months down the line.

  • Hi all,
Had a manicly busy week in work but have decided Mondays the day. The gin has gone & the remaineder of the port will go by Mon. I got a quitting pack from tesco (free) yesterday and its got a wall chart in it & stickers - fab!! Ok some will think it silly but I'm going for the whole caboodle! Anyone tried the lozenges? Am half way though Allans book but still not feeling like quitting but will keep gong with it!! Just worried about the nicoteine cravings and feel a bit undecided on n-replacement vs cold turkey...I've got a cough anyway but will get some zantac in in advance!! How are people managing without using their hands? (phanar phanar!!)

Hi fishface-69. I have tried to give up cold turkey on numerous ocassions and have always failed. But this time, with patches i feel so much better. Hardly had the hump at all. It is only day three but I would normally have wanted to kill someone by now. I have been trying to keep busy because of the "hand thing", house is begining to look very clean and tidy. Good luck.
