Went to see the quit nurse today & she has given me step 2 patches plus i must keep going with the plastic ciggy thingy!
If i end up having an allergic reaction to it, then she said that she will get some advice from my GP
Apparently there is a product on the market simular to Zyban but doesnt affect those people who are hypertensive (like myself) So ive got a week to see if the patches help. Failing that im gonna try the nasal spray & if that fails then im stuffed as ive tried everything else!!!
    Oh well must keep trying
Keep you all posted as usual
Needtobe I think the product you are referring to is Champix. I used it and have stopped 6.5 weeks now. It hasn't all been plain sailing but since nothing else worked for me before I'd say it's been pretty successful.

    Hi,
Yet again I am giving up smoking and have started today. I'm feeling OK so far but know worse is to come.
Does anyone have any ideas about not giving in due to boredom/cravings/habit? I'm going to try not to use patches as I am trying to save cash as well as myself!!
Anyone else in the same boat?

Hi, you could get the patches on prescription, i have been on them for nearly 9 weeks and they are working for me. I also bought a gameboy so when i had a craving i had something to do with my hands.

:j Day 95 smoking free for both of us - I calculate we've saved at least £1225.50:j
Still don't feel any better always out of breath now so I'll have to tackle losing weight
C'est la vie! No going back.
  • Since its a little over a day till the 1 year anniversary I thought it was worth a bounce of this thread to see if anyone kept with it? Ive got to admit I found it a little easier than I thought but I had given up for around 8 months a few years back so maybe that was good training for this time round.

Cold turkey did it for me and all in all I've probably saved almost £1.5k by giving up. Sadly for 2008 I have to tackle my weight as a result of my success this year! The image of gophers, holes and hammers springs to mind! :D

Anyway for anyone considering it for 2008 its well worth doing...seemed like the price of cigs was only ever going up and I dont expect that to change any time soon.
