I don't think in this day and age it should ever be assumed that parents will automatically contribute.
My dad would always have wanted to pay for the total reception. He wanted to be the host on the day.0 -
we have two daughters married within a year of each other,we paid for the wedding receptions ,and the couples plus inlaws paid the rest,both days were wonderful0

Im 26 and marrying next year, and to be honest I expect no money from anyone- that's why we will be engaged for 3 years before we marry so that we can save. My mum has offered to pay towards the hire of the village hall and flowers as a wedding gift. I think these days people tend to pay for it themselves, I don't mind cos its our choice to marry (and marriage is a choice these days) and i want to have a say on how my moneys spent0
