    True, but they might have come at it from the perspective of thinking the brides parents would expect to pay for everything so they were relieving them of a burden.
    My dad would always have wanted to pay for the total reception. He wanted to be the host on the day.

    we have two daughters married within a year of each other,we paid for the wedding receptions ,and the couples plus inlaws paid the rest,both days were wonderful

    Im 26 and marrying next year, and to be honest I expect no money from anyone- that's why we will be engaged for 3 years before we marry so that we can save. My mum has offered to pay towards the hire of the village hall and flowers as a wedding gift. I think these days people tend to pay for it themselves, I don't mind cos its our choice to marry (and marriage is a choice these days) and i want to have a say on how my moneys spent
