Horace's Biting the Bullet Diary

I have had too much stress lately, Mum came to sort my central heating on Friday and wasnt in the best of moods so I got it in the neck. Alas, her trip cost her £50 as she had an accident on the way home and the damage to the vehicle she hit (swerving to avoid an eejit) came to £50 as it was on the wing mirror.
Dad was quite unwell at the weekend but I was out in the garden all weekend so didnt visit. I spoke to Mum yesterday after I had stopped for a break and she told me about dad being quite poorly. She is hoping to come round this week to help me plant some bulbs in my tubs and put plants in.
I was forced to do some digging yesterday as I dug up two large rootballs for two plants that I had cut down. I now have space for foxgloves. I was in the garden all day on Saturday too - I managed to fill 25 green sacks which the bin men took today:j
My knees are quite sore - partly because I bashed my worst one on the bannister when I was trying to do my exercises. I have more physio to do and have to go back to the hospital in two weeks, firstly for a talk about osteo arthritis and secondly for yet more physio.
Today, I have been mainly catching up with housework..yawn.0 -
I got eaten by midges on Sunday - now I have nasty swollen bites on my arms, now I have some anti histamine cream from the chemists:j I had a bit of a spendy day today - I did nip into Tatco for some bits (I didnt buy much) as well as the chemist for the cream, I wandered into the charity shop and picked up two books and I treated myself to a handblown glass vase for £3 but I know that I can sell it for around £30-40 although I plan to keep it and put it in my bedroom as the colours are the same. Must admit that the wallpaper in my bedroom is not my choice but it is pleasant enough and I can live with it until I decide to change.
I went to SW last night and the pound I put on last week, I lost this week:j My weight is slowly coming off, I only need to lose 2 more lbs to get my half stone award. It seems to be taking for ever but I know that if the weight comes off slowly then it is more likely to stay off than for those folks who lose several pounds each week. I know that one lady went on a cruise and where she had managed to lose 4.5 stone before she went on it (it was only 15 days) she put on weight and now needs to lose just over half a stone to get back to 4.5 stone. Must admit that I forgot to put the hall light on before I went out yesterday so the house was pitch black by the time I returned (at around 7pm) - I am not liking dark nights.0 -
Not been around much as I have had a migraine which has meant no computer work for a while. The migraine is due to increased eye pressure which should start coming down now that the hospital have given me some drops (drops I cannot get from the chemist as everywhere is out of stock).
I was out on Sunday - I did an Aldi shop and spent a little more in there but I did treat myself to a large fluffy white bathmat and a black rubber scraping mat for outside my front door. The old worn mat has gone into the side entry so that I can scrape my boots on it as I enter the entry from the garden.
I had great fun on Sunday afternoon as I decided to enjoy the sunshine and instead of digging in the garden, I went out clutching a carrier bag to do something I havent done since I was 10. I went out conkering and managed to get quite a bag full - I spent time wandering up and down, watching where they fell off the trees and kicking leaves up everywhere. I even did a spot yesterday and came home with a pocket full of conkers:D My neighbour told me that I was far too old to go conkering but I said that I hoped I would still be conkering at 94!
My parents came round today - dad bled the radiator in my bathroom so now it heats up at the top instead of just the bottom. He also put up a tool rack in the shed for me and used a lovely piece of mahogany to screw it onto (I recognised it as a drawer front from the old wardrobe my parents used to have). Mum came bearing gifts: tomatoes from the greenhouse including plum ones which she has decided are not very tasty (thanks mum!), some light bulbs from Aldi, a load of bulbs and stacks of plants. One heuchera came originally from my grandparent's garden. She even bought me the most divine gentian which glorious blue flowers. Mum refused to take any money for the bulbs and the plants but she did go home with some leather gardening gloves that I got at a knock down price in Aldi and a lovely long sleeved t-shirt with burgundy gilet that I had bought in the market but it didnt fit me:(
In other news I lost 1.5lbs this week so I am .5lbs away from my half stone award. I also won the raffle so lugged home a large bag of jacket spuds, 3 red onions, a tin of baked beans, a bag of salad leaves, some baby tomatoes - I gave away the tin of tuna, the 3 peppers, the celery, the radishes and the low fat mayo that I also won because I am allergic or have an extreme dislike. Not bad for a 50p ticket.0 -
Sorry to hear about your bad knees that is a right pain.
But yay on the losing weight. I REALLY must get back to losing the weight for me too. I know I will feel better about myself when I do.
Sadly though I am at the self sabotage stage at the moment. Ie buying things that are bad for a diet lol. But I will get there again

Hey Horace,
Been struggling to spend much time on MSE for various reasons, hope your knees are doing better and the job hunting is coming on well
Really impressed at your weight loss, dont be disheartened as the more time you take over it the more likely you are to keep the weight off. Well done
