Never been hunting, and doubt I ever would, certainly have no desire to, but if that's what people want to do with their spare time then that's up to them really as far as I'm concerned. Only a nanny state would interfere in such things...

I was too scared to ride a donkey on the beach, never mind a full sized horse.

Unless things have changed I'm not sure that the H can actually do that, can they? I know an old of ours had to be kept in H because there were problems over where they could go. That was a few years ago, though, & things alter. Has the old's GP been involved? Maybe he/she can suggest somewhere or get the H to wait longer for you to find the right place?

If the hospital is not an appropriate place, I'm sure that they must have some power to involve social services and the family but move her on. Otherwise the geriatric wards could be completely full of people who don't medically need hospital care.

A friend of parents said, having no money makes it easier, she (who had dementia) goes where she is sent and the family live with it. Having money gives you choices, but it can mean delays in finding appropriate care and put a burden on the family to decide on the care.

When my grandmother needed moving from hospital to care, there was too much dithering and after a short while the hospital moved her to a care home and left the family sort her from there. She was there about a month before a new care home was sorted. She was installed one day and had a stroke and died the next; all that dithering for very little!

OTOH, I'm not quite sure that the above comment qualifies for the NP thread - after all, michaels, we might not all approve 100% of how you conduct your life, but we aren't quite as rude about you or your family*.

    Agreed!

You think you know people then you find that of a weekend they dress up like neo-facists and provoke some fierce dogs to pursue a small defenceless furry animal across open countryside and watch it being ripped to pieces while still alive for fun.

I doubt you'ver ever had the pleasure of clearing up the Chicken house after the Fox has had its 'Fun'

Sorry to hear about your Grandmother, silvercar.

I said I was probably out of touch now so wouldn't be at all surprised if things had changed.

When my old was in H (on more than one occasion) the geriatric wards were full of people who didn't all need medical help. Some were awaiting assessment, or changes to their own home to be made, before they could return to it. Others were in the midst of having suitable care/nursing homes found for them.
As PN was saying different problems mean certain homes will or won't accept people so some of them were just there waiting.
We even saw individuals returned to H because their new home had chucked them out. Not a laughing matter, I know, but :rotfl: some of them must have been absolute ***s to deal with. I think a couple were in & out of more than one home because of their obnoxious behaviour.

I have a relative that is a hospital doctor, he often took the Xmas day shift in A&E. The morning was full of kids who had fallen off their brand new bikes.

From 3pm the elderly would arrive. Family had had them over for Xmas dinner and had had enough. They didn't want to take them back to an empty house, so would deliver them to A&E with "ailments" that translated to "indigestion after big Xmas dinner". Dump them there - the longer the wait the better - and go back home. Often they would meet up with others they had met there in previous years!

    Hunting.

Had to confront the hunt a couple of weeks ago, as they had strayed onto my property.

Short conversation involving most of my vocabulary of adjectives.

Personally I don't care one iota whether or not these stuck up !!!!! :eek:decide to dress up in strange outfits and ride their horses about whilst chasing a pack of hounds who have "accidently" begun chasing a fox/stag, but they can't do it on my property, and they know that !!!

The word hunt, rhymes with another word that aptly describes these people and their arrogant attitude towards others.

First off, cards on table. Never been on one and never likely to. Don't disapprove of fox hunting though.
But passing comment in such a manner before asking for the closure of the topic smacked of double standards. I did write as such but then deleted thinking perhaps even commenting as such was non-NP.

Jonny, your comment and NDG's are calm, polite, and appealing for niceness - eminiently suitable for the NPT. Some of the other responses to the topic have not been. I believe there's a debate on the subject over in the Arms. Take it there, please, folks.

Itismehonest - are you new around here, or just enjoying a new incarnation? Or would you rather not answer that?

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Doesn't have much to do with hunting though.....you vcan go in a car or quadbike (tedious and antisocial iMO) or on foot: which can be quite remarkably amazing...whether or not you like hunting you walk amazing places.

re posh, I know I've said it before but hunting is not necessarily posh. Some hunts are, some hunts are less so, but most hunts have local kids/farmers and some of those single mothers on benefits who scrimp to keep a pony and like hunting. Itsa not for me any more, but if its going to be dissed, which I think is fair enough, it should be on a factual basis.
