  • Although I've always lived in the countryside, it's never been the posh bits so I've never seen a hunt (even in the distance), nor heard of anybody ever going on one, nor heard anybody speak of having seen one/gone.

I'm not sure if this bit of Kent is that posh, but there's a fair amount of hunting. Lots of people go on foot, though, rather than ride.
    Where's that then?

    It's in that there London
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

The whole world of mobile phones is completely outside of my sphere of understanding... completely. I couldn't even explain the above posting to somebody as it's all just making a WHOOOOSH noise.

    :)

I'd like a new-fangled phone at some point, but there's so much to understand I wonder if I'll ever get round to it..

I'm starting to fall behind too :o

No smart phone, not for a while anyway, and the one I get will be an old one; old computer; never used Twitter; modern music is a mystery to me now... old fuddy duddy!

No. you're just sensible. These items aren't advancing as their manufacturers and marketers are trying to suggest. A 5-year old computer can do all we need, we don't all need the facilities of a smartphone. Dara O'Brein once said he couldn't take a wee in his tumble-drier but wasn't bothered by that.:D We don't need all our machines to be able to meet all our needs.

As regards music, pop over to the music thread (well you already have) and stick around for a while. :p

Hunting - we have the hound HQ about three miles away. At dawn, if the wind's in the right direction, I can sometimes hear them, so I assume they're being fed/exercised. They don't come onto our land, as they'd find themselves pretty much trapped by impossible-to-jump fences and hedges. Those are there to keep stock in and humans out, particularly one human who isn't keen on me.

I'm not a fan of foxes, but I've taken precautions against them, and so far, we've been able to co-exist. Hopefully, it will stay that way.

As a young man I used to go stag hunting with a friend who, like me, was on the animal's side. For him, it was embarrassing, because he was part of a traditional farming family. We didn't go with the idiot followers in their vehicles, who would block lanes and see little or nothing, but we tried to use maps to get ahead of the whole shebang. Then, if we were lucky and stayed quiet, we'd see the stag come through at close quarters, long before the hunters.

We got it wrong most of the time, but one afternoon we saw a very tired stag near Dulverton and the hunt wasn't far behind. Someone asked if we'd seen him pass through, and my friend replied, "Yes," but pointed them in entirely the wrong direction. A few minutes later, the whole pack was climbing the far hillside, which seemed a bit odd. Then we realised that by following my friend's directions, they'd picked up a completely new beast, who ran them all around the area until nightfall. I read that in the paper, because you can bet that by then we were well out of there! :rotfl:

Reading fc123's post made me think.....
Have you tried speaking to someone at your local Age UK, PN? It's what used to be Age Concern. For some reason they are no longer concerned & now sound more like a limited company but they may be able to help.
We've had them involved in the past.... but, to be honest, they work too slowly to be of any use. They take weeks before a volunteer can meet you and we don't have weeks, we have hours/days.

Also, that's not occurred to us. This only really came up yesterday afternoon at about 5pm, my sibling's going home today and we need to visit places this morning and decide as the H place are keen to ship the old out. If we don't choose they'll just ship the old 'anywhere' that has a bed/has the special feature.

Thanks for that as I didn't have a clue what it was. I'm into modern architecture and is one of the reasons I like Dubai.

I don't hunt myself, and never have. I don't fancy it at all.

OTOH, I'm not quite sure that the above comment qualifies for the NP thread - after all, michaels, we might not all approve 100% of how you conduct your life, but we aren't quite as rude about you or your family*.

    * Having said that my sister hunts quite a lot (the other does a bit)

I'm glad it's not just me.
First off, cards on table. Never been on one and never likely to. Don't disapprove of fox hunting though.
But passing comment in such a manner before asking for the closure of the topic smacked of double standards. I did write as such but then deleted thinking perhaps even commenting as such was non-NP.

No smart phone only an old cracked screen trying to be a smart phone Nokia. New laptop but only because my old pc died a death at the beginning of the year (oh and thanks to bank of mum and dad, otherwise it would be no laptop or pc at all!), have got a Twitter account, rarely use it but with 3 teenage boys, modern music is not a mystery.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

We can still get Tunnock's tea cakes in our local supermarkets....and we are miles from Scotland.

They are mine and James' favourites........
