In 1966, my friend stowed away, then worked his passage, to follow the girl he was besotted with back to the good ol' USofA. He had a passport, which probably helped him get in at t'other end, but even then, there were work permits etc etc.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, he bummed around a bit near this young lady's house, until he was arrested for vagrancy and banged up to do 200 days hard labour on a soya bean farm.

If I remember correctly, his parents got him out via the British Embassy before too long, but they hung on to his passport until the costs were all paid.

Maybe not such simple times, but happy? Yes! :)

    I love your stories :)

I'm hobbling around like a proper cripple today. Stiff left achilles, stiff left knee, both calves are dead, and my left hip is screwed. My left leg keeps threatening to give way. The gym is slowly killing me!

Sorry if my phrasing was insensitive! Yes, I'm a member of two different ones (work gym and one near home) costs me £75 a month to destroy myself! Got to offset the ludicrous amount of eating out I am being forced to do at the moment. I love this time of year and also similtaneously loathe it for exactly the same reasons!

I would hope I'm at least emotionally robust! I meant nothing piqued by it!

Deed (rightly or wrongly) reminds me of Lord Denning and some of the the tricks that he used to get up to, preferring justice to the current law any time.

Denning was like you suggest sometimes.
He also was quite mad sometimes...

As if I haven't got enough to do, I need a new kettle. Mine has plaster all round the outside and, I suspect, the inside. Now I do have to go to Redditch. Maybe I will find Farmfoods while I am there.

I did have a shower in my own house today and the lounge is finished :)

michaels has got one you might be able to have.
    Quite cheap I think...

An investment banker said he was going to concentrate on the big issues from now on.

He sold me one in the street yesterday.

No it is not! If I had my way I'd never be out of bed before 10am.
