I've seen these around various audiobook threads in the forum but haven't used half of them yet, or needed to. Most of them are free or have a mix of free/for sale books. A lot of them are recycling each others classics IYSWIMThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I am so sorry about your mother and am thinking of you and your family. My mother had a sudden heart attack and died in an hour or so while my father was in hospital or a hospice for several months with myeloid leukeamia. It is a wrenching situation whatever happens and difficult not to second guess things.
Had a dishwasher engineer here last week for the 15 month old Bosch and the heating unit had failed which was very unusual. it worked for a week then last night got half way through the program - conked out and fused the lights, cooker fridge etc. Someone is now coming on Tuesday morning to have another look at it. Never had this trouble with simpler and cheaper machines so fed up.
It would pack up when I had done a massive cooking and baking session and the worktop was full of plates, cutlery, saucepans and baking dishes."This site is addictive!"

I haven't caught up yet, because want to make the most important post before reading on.
Lydiaj, I am thinking of you and your family. I can't stress enough how even with all this going on you need to make some time for yourself to think and breath and even to cry...long baths might be in order so you can relax and enjoy and weep with a little less reserve and more privacy.0 -
It's subliminal, my dear jelly.
I can't think of another product consumers are less 'informed' about when it comes to spending large sums of money.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE FOR MEN:
especially as approaching christmas.
The perfume ad is not the basis for what to buy...check the dressing table/bathroom cabinet/whereever the bottle is. Make a note of it so you don't forget. Mention that she smells nice ASK what it is. Note the general smells she goes for, (floral, woody, spicy or fresh....a few women swap types...I used to, but womwn who buy from the same family you get a good idea).
Perfume smells different on different people's skin. IME Channel no 5 stinks on me, and didn't smell good on my sister until she'd had a baby, where suddenly it worked. I'd never buy it for a young woman.
Perfume can be a hit of a gift (dh usually gets it right:T) but also can be very bad. Although I am deeply touched my f-i-l bought me a bottle of perfume in duty free (a gift is always an indication you've been remembered) its been worn only on the day he gave it to me.
As for how to understand perfume ads and commercial art, I suspect like the mystery of much modern art and sculpture to me, you either appreciate it or not...with a few exceptions....I like some modern art and artists, but would never, for example, appreciate a canvas of faeces.0 -
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0

As the last rich English speaking country (unless you count Canada but as they say in the South Park film 'it's not a real country anyway') we are getting a lot more interesting people over. Steven Fry (ph?) did a stint as did Alan Davies .
My mate spent years in NZ - he's rubgy mad but didn't think there was enough footie down under ( I wasn't aware of that). One thing he did grumble about was lack of international acts (singers, bands, etc.) as he likes live music.
He gave the impression that if someone was touring Oz or Japan (if!)or both they might grudgingly add a spare date in NZ but might just as easily give the whole place the body-swerve. Something I'd never thought of.
On the other hand it might be when good acts come to Oz/NZ they might get a great reception. Are there a lot of US/UK bands touring there? Do the locals feel they're well-served?There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

I wouldn't dream of buying my wife perfume without checking in advance what she wants. Otherwise, it ends up at the charity shop toot sweet! No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

When I was 17 I saw New Order and The Cure on consecutive nights and REM three weeks later, all at Wembley arena. Aussie jaws drop at the thought.
'International acts' probably come to Sydney once a month or so at the moment. 5 or 10 years ago it would have been 2 or 3 a year I would guess.
APAC is what it is. APAC ex-Indonesia is perhaps 30,000,000 or so people spread across remote and distant islands. There are 4 cities in that area with a larger population than Birmingham in the UK. It's about a quarter of the globe.0 -

We had to replace (both) our Bosch machines after about 10 years, and I got the same models again. I was surprised that the price was the same ten years later, BUT they had clearly cheapened up the machines to achieve that.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Me, middle son and a family friend went out last night to a schools music acts competition (unfortunately, although they said it covered all the Suffolk schools, they had only actually visited 10 schools in the area - so middle son's school were not represented. I did moan about this during the week to the organiser and he is going to see if he can rectify that for next year). It was being held in the next big town and because we knew that parking would be a bit of a problem, we took the wheelchair.
Well, I must commend the Corn Exchange in Ipswich, they were absolutely excellent. Turning up unannounced, they didn't bat an eyelid and straight away took us to the service lift to reach the main floor, they organised a good spot for us and even went and got extra chairs for son and friend to sit on...nothing was too much trouble for them at all.
The evening was good and it was nice to know my ear has not lost its sharpness....I picked out the winners mentally and amazingly, the judges made the same choices I had. All the more amazing as it was all different types of music from choirs, to soloists, to heavy trash metal. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0
