Have just got back from visiting parents. Mum slept a lot, but was pleased to see me when she was awake. My dad has stopped some of her medication now. She can't swallow tablets or capsules any more, and hates the taste of the suspensions, so he's just giving her her dementia meds (which do make a big difference), and not bothering with the parkinson drug (she's too sleepy to want to move much anyway) or the warfarin - she's unlikely to get a thrombosis in the next few days, and it doesn't matter much if she does. It was all very ordinary in their house - much as it's been for the last couple of years since she was taken ill, except that she stayed in bed until lunchtime when the carers came to put her in her wheelchair, and then stayed in the wheelchair until the carers came at bedtime to put her back to bed. My dad is still hovering about plying her with what he hopes are tempting things to eat and drink, and she did eat a bit. She still likes chocolate!

He thinks she'll probably go on several more days, and doesn't want me to drop everything immediately. The plan is for me to go ahead with spending the weekend with one of my best friends as was arranged weeks ago, while my brother and his family visit my parents, and then go back and see Mum again on Monday or maybe Tuesday. My other brothers are also hoping to visit soon but also not dropping everything to dash down there straight away. I'll probably take the kids off school so they can see her one more time. Monday would be good for me, but I may make it just the morning so we can get back for DD's hockey trip that she's been looking forward to.

This isn't sudden - she's been gently deteriorating for the last two years after spending six months recovering from the last time we thought she was dying and summoned everyone to dash to her bedside. We all know every time we see her that it may be the last time, and we haven't left anything unsaid that we want to say. My dad doesn't want us all camping on his doorstep for anything up to two weeks, and he doesn't want her overwhelmed by too many people at once. I think he wants some space to be alone with her, too.

Balancing my wish to be with her and my kids' needs at home, I think I'll probably end up visiting her at least every other day from Monday onwards, with the possibility of dropping everything and dashing down there if my dad decides he wants me to.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

BigPockets are not my favourite retailer, Michaels.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

More the type of product than the retailer that I was trying to recommend. I know bigpockets have some very poor reviews.

The good thing about the Kindle is it's a dead easy present

Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Next week or two I'll be heading to Book Barn or similar for some stocking fillers for dh. :)
