Dad's decided to get Mum one. He thought the 3G one would be better because she won't have to faff around linking it to the PC. I tried to explain that once its on the wifi its set up, but he wasn't convinced. Plus they turn off the wifi whenever they are not using the computer.

If i was getting one which i am not it would be the wifi one. I'm not a fan of 3G and certainly for me it wouldn't be worth it.
I've heard that happens after hours. In fact a friend of mine did that after hours.....

    Really? How ungrateful!!

I am horror struck that somebody could disrespect a gift costing so much; if somebody's ever spent £20-30 on a present of perfume for me I'd wear it out of respect that they thought so much of me that they spent a small fortune and time to choose it.

I think my DW is a bit set in her ways as far as perfume is concerned. She only ever uses the same one.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Ooooh, naughty. Hopefully he/she didn't need to look up Dewey Code 616.951.

It was naughty.... and in the US. They'd gone for an after-work drink, librarian had wanted a wee after they'd left the bar, so it seemed reasonable to go into the library .... and it all went naughty after that.

No books needed... both were pie-eyed and wouldn't even have been able to see the pictures.

Evening all. Still around and slowly on the mend. Can`t get used to living on hand outs and other bits. After 40 years of grind it sure don`t come easy. As I am getting better feeling the old cut and thrust coming back. Love to go out and cut a deal in my area of expertise but not so likely. In fact, it ain`t gonna happen.

Hope Cornwall is treating you OK PN. Without saying too much, my solicitor is firmly on the case. Last letter has gone out to them. Trying to sort on a one to one basis is fruitless and been met with lies. Not enjoying it but they brought it on. Hoping court can be avoided but I am on, what used to be called a no win, no fee deal so insurance is in place.

When I was ditched, I declared that I did not qualify for pension tax benefits because we had capital. Not sure it pays to be so honest after what I was told by a friend. Her daughter, single mother of 3, came into the best part of £100,000, didn`t declare it so still gets all the bells and whistles like housing benefit, income support and the rest. Nice motor with personal plates, nice holiday and a housing benefit 3 bedroom house. Makes you wonder.

    Funny old world.

    Awww... We luff you Pobbers.

    :)

I know, it's not fair is it when you don't get stuff that others are getting. My old is confused as to why "everybody else" gets rafts of help and carers and cheap (£5) day centre trips etc and they're being asked to pay for everything. It's not just the paying for it, if they're paying it's also sorted out for you; when you're having to find out what's what and pay for it you're on your own to try to muddle through and access things.

Council houses are 50% off again from Monday ..... lucky for those that got one they like.

You're same age as me, and while I don't get any discretionary support, I do have that wonderful gold-plated, index-linked pension that people on this board are always banging-on about.....like I didn't do anything for it. It still doesn't meet our living costs, though. :(

Sometimes I have a fantasy about us both going back to work and breaking the agricultural tie on this place. Trouble is, we'd need to do that for 10 years before we could apply to have it lifted. Then, we'd be quids-in....and I'd be 72!!! :rotfl:

I've no regrets about giving up work or any illusions about that. When I stopped doing full-time I was on top of my game, but by the time I'd finished as a part-timer I knew I was over the hill, at least so far as that job was concerned. Stuff like deteriorating eyesight and short-term memory plays its part. Doesn't mean you're useless though...far from it. There are many jobs where a mature and reliable approach is needed, rather than pzazz.

Once you've fully recovered, Pobby, there will be many people willing to take you on, rather than some young upstart, mainly because of your intergrity, experience and customer skills, which were forged in a different era. ;)

    I'd echo davsnaves comments pobby.

Regarding the daughter of a friend, I wouldn't be able to stop myself accidentally letting it slip to a fraud officer. Someone who has £100k doeasn't need state help so shouldn't get it!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

I'd give it away too if I didn't like it. Scent very much impacts on my mood and happiness. To me a gift is valued whether it cost the person nothing or a lot, but it really is the thoiught that counts not the gift. I wouldn't wear something that made me irritated (sweet things, or cake/candy scented bath products) or headachey (overly musky headily spiced perfumes) or like a jif lemon or just plain is nice but smells less nice on my skin.

I'd rather pass it on to someone who will get real pleasure out of it than use it out of misguided and slightly grudging duty.

Not really a nice people topic I know but: It's interesting though even though most of us probably know/know of someone who is receiving benefits they should not or perhaps declaring less incoem for tax than they should how many of us have actually ever shopped someone?
    I think....
