I am horror struck that somebody could disrespect a gift costing so much; if somebody's ever spent £20-30 on a present of perfume for me I'd wear it out of respect that they thought so much of me that they spent a small fortune and time to choose it.
You are a much nicer person than I am (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

1) Ireland being less corrupt than uk...
2) the depressing amount of red brings the mps expenses scandal into some context! They may be liars and thieves, but at least they're not those other liars and thieves.
3) surely Iceland is nowhere near that big!!!
It does seem to be the case that a lot of the world laughed at our shock-horror over MPs expenses. The idea of being suprised and outraged at MPs pocketing a few thousand was seen as strange beyond belief.
I think it's a good thing we were outraged, and didn't just shrug and say, "these things happen"....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
I wouldn't dream of buying my wife perfume without checking in advance what she wants. Otherwise, it ends up at the charity shop toot sweet!
And the tooter the sweeter!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

When I was 18 / 19, an American student over in London for a "semester abroad" bought me Chanel no.5 and said, "my mother wears it, so I thought you'd like it". He needed some practice on the romantic nothings front........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

Not really a nice people topic I know but: It's interesting though even though most of us probably know/know of someone who is receiving benefits they should not or perhaps declaring less incoem for tax than they should how many of us have actually ever shopped someone?
I haven't... but then, I wouldn't have a clue who was getting what benefits, or who was declaring what income.
Why would anyone who was cheating let anyone else know they were claiming off the state?chewmylegoff wrote: »There were three things that surprised me about the map:

Iceland is huge compared to its population size, but most of it is uninhabitable.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I know unmarried mother's at the kids school who I suspect are co-habiting but claiming to be lone parents but I am not certain, but it certainly wouldn't feel the right thing to do to shop them. Similarly I have heard of people working soem cash bar work which I assume they are not declaring for benefits but I don't really know their names or have any evidnece that these stories are actually true. Should I try and get more details and shop them?I think....0

Neither is Greenland. The apparent size of the countries depends on the type of projection used to convert the spherical surface of the world into a flat map. The projection used for this map keeps the directions right, but makes the sizes all wrong - places near the equator appear smaller and places near the poles appear huge. There are other projections that keep the sizes right but mess up the shapes and directions.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
