I know unmarried mother's at the kids school who I suspect are co-habiting but claiming to be lone parents but I am not certain, but it certainly wouldn't feel the right thing to do to shop them. Similarly I have heard of people working soem cash bar work which I assume they are not declaring for benefits but I don't really know their names or have any evidnece that these stories are actually true. Should I try and get more details and shop them?

i wouldn't go out of my way to investigate whether someone is committing fraud - it's not your job to do that, and it would be a bit odd if you started surveilling people in your spare time when you could be playing modern warfare 3, or drinking lager instead.

however, if you know for certain, i think it's odd not to report it, as it is in substance theft, from you.

Neither is Greenland. The apparent size of the countries depends on the type of projection used to convert the spherical surface of the world into a flat map. The projection used for this map keeps the directions right, but makes the sizes all wrong - places near the equator appear smaller and places near the poles appear huge. There are other projections that keep the sizes right but mess up the shapes and directions.

i've never ever thought about that, yet it seems so obvious now! i need to go back to school, there must be hundreds of other blindingly basic things have i missed.

It's not exactly helped by the fact that most of the countries in the north are massive anyway - Greenland's a good fraction of a million square miles and Canada and Russia are the two biggest countries.

I knew someone who was in Finland and was surprised by how many Japanese tourists were there until somebody pointed out how closer the two countries were if you flew across the Arctic!:)

I'm in a filthy mood. I'm suddenly in a bit of pain (is the weather about to change I wonder? sometimes I notice a correlation between some of the pain, particularly facial pain, and the weather). Further more DH isn't that keen on my new haircolour, though he says its lovely because he's an NP he admits its not his favourite colour on me.

In the first 5 words i thought it was DH's lucky night! :D but i soon realised it wasn't.

    Hope the pain subsides soon.

Course, you do realise you will have to tell us what colour your hair is now.
  • Have spent today crawling around on the floor running cables around the skirting board, assembling stands from flatpack, and setting up electronic thingies.

Despite stabbing myself with a screwdriver, twice, getting splinters, and having to dismantle the flatpack stuff after building it twice the wrong way, I feel strangely triumphant about having actually built stuff. Not usually my thing at all.

Now if I can only get any of it to work properly and talk to all the other bits, I'll be quite happy. Though having absolutely no luck so far.

It's just a different shade of mouse. :D

It was a bit brassy and I didn't want to spend a lot so I had it done at local college and asked to have a lot of chocolate put through and equal amounts of creamy blonde (which with the existing [STRIKE]brass[/STRIKE] gold) from experience does look good. There is not much of the light colour and a lot of the dark one. Its fine, a bit not me and dark but I can live with it happily for a while, and it will be fun to have lighter roots than ends as it grows out. :D

some people are incredibly proud of their ability to play or cheat a system. There are posts on MSE which surprise me all the time in this vein.

I once knew someone who would proudly tell all that she always delayed renewing her car tax by a month. Her car was parked overnight off road and if ever stopped while driving she would just going to say that her OH had sent it off. She reckoned that the chances of getting caught, together with the unofficial 14 days leeway period meant she was virtually bound to get away with it. So she only ever bought 6 months tax and would do this every time.

Luckily this loophole has been closed, but it used to annoy me that she did it and would show off about doing it.

I'm none the wiser and would need a generic picture of your style and colour :A

Her insurance would have been invalid during those times. Just not worth it.
