Fair enough, personally I basically don't drink... used to as a student, got bored of it.
So, I am not bothered if I drink or not - so tend not to.
What does annoy me though is people who insist I drink. "Let me buy you a drink..." "Diet coke" "No ... I'll only buy you a proper drink" "OK, nothing then thanks".
And those that buy the darned thing then insist you drink it (got w4nkered on just ONE Jaegermeister one night that was 'forced' on me ... and it was on a full stomach as I'd stood by a buffet table for the previous 2 hours and could barely walk when I'd moved away).
The other one is when your drink's spiked. One night the landlord of the pub spiked my alcopops with a vodka.... that night I felt guilty for chucking up in his flower tubs outside the door.... lost those guilty feelings when he confessed the next night and found it funny.0 -
I drink. Don't feel the need to push it on to anyone else though. I also don't drink sometimes. I don't see anything fun in drinking to the point of being unpleasant to be around, vomiting or incontinent (and I can't understand people doing that weekend after weekend after weekend) Yuck. Or even to give me a fragile next day feeling. I hate that feeling of being insomniac with wine eyes. If its enough to make me feel a little dehydrated then IMO I'm over my tolerance...I want to appreciate it, and if I'm downing it I never will.
coconut and pineapple juice is ok with rum though.0 -
When I used to drink the occasional alcopop I knew they were high in calories .... at Xmas I'd buy some cheap sugar-free canned drinks with interesting sounding flavours .... and a cheap bottle of vodka. Much cheaper than brand names and a wider flavour range
One year I spotted "mud shakes", which were alcoholic thick shakes...... so I bought a bottle of Yazoo and put a spot of vodka in. Lovely that was. Even so, one bottle of vodka would probably last me 3 years.0 -
I just saw something on the news that was absolutely astonishing. If I didn't think the EU was behaving in a manner that was totally barking, I do now. Sadly, it has nothing to do with economics so I can't make a thread for it.
The long and the short appears to be that bottled water firms in Europe have been told that they can't say water is the best source for hydrating your body or they can be sued for it. The inference seemed to be that it can't be proven. Caveat alert: this is an Express story, though apparently its being written into other papers too, so it may be worth seeing how they report it. Pina colada is my favourite cocktail.
I prefer a bottle of wine though, 1 is good, more is not so :beer:0 -
I don't drink either. Tried to develop a taste for it and never did, so gave up trying. There seem to be more non-drinkers (or hardly ever drinkers) among the nice people than the average population. I'm trying to remember the other things we thought were disproportionately represented here - something about liking or not liking mushrooms? Can anyone remember what the others were?
But that's not what I came on here to say tonight. I just heard from my dad. Mum is getting dehydrated because she won't eat/drink enough. The doctor suggested a drip, but she doesn't want it. The doctor and my dad agreed that while it might buy her an extra week or two of life, it wasn't worth it if she would hate it. My dad asked how long, and the doctor said days or maybe a week or two at the most. He says she's given up, and we can see that it's true.
I wouldn't wish what she's going through on anyone. For those who can't remember, she has Lewy Body disease (symptoms are Parkinsonism and a type of dementia that impairs thinking rather than memory), also a colostomy and endometrial cancer. She's just turned 82. And I've been gradually losing her for the last 3 years or so that she's been ill and the dementia's been worsening. When I visit, I talk to her when she's awake, about simple things she might be able to follow, but she sleeps a lot. I talk to my dad about the things I used to talk to her about because she can't understand any more. I miss the person she used to be. I know she's never going to be well again, but somehow that doesn't feel as final as her death will be. She's been a fantastic mum and I love her. She loved having grandchildren so much. I'm so sad she didn't stay well long enough to spend more time with my kids. At least she's not in pain. I'm rambling, I know, but I can't be coherent tonight. Thanks for "listening".Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

It was very much half n half but you either hate mushrooms or love them.
I hate them and that is a strong word for me as i don't normally hate anything or anyone :A0 -

That's so hard for you L and i know every nice person is really impressed with how you cope with things. Ramble on! I have been known to do the same on certain occasions though not on TNPT, yet! :A0 -
Oh Lydia, it never rains but it pours for you. Mine (and I am sure all the NPs') thoughts are with you and if there is anything we can do to help please don't think but to ask. If it is OK I will tell my DW about you and she will pray for you and my DDs will pray for you and your DKs too.I think....0

When my wife and I go off together we wash dishes by hand, but at home there are 6 or 7 of us, and we use dishwashers. We have 2 dishwashers, so that we can separate the plates that we use for milk and meat. Personally, I'd prefer to go vegetarian and just have the one set of dishes, but we have some meat eaters in the house. (Yes, before you ask, two sinks! But only one oven.)
Seriously kosher then.
Do you drink wine?
You do post on a Saturday I seem to recall, which sort of contradicts being so kosher.
(Not that there is anything wrong with contradictions.)
I drink, but not to oblivion. And I eat mushrooms, not that there is a connection.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
