So parents had a visit from a cancer charity doctor and nurse, arranged by the consultant. I haven't a clue how or why this happened or who the charity is.

So they arrive, 2 ladies. One explains how they are experienced in dealing with severe cases - freaking Mum out. The other sits too close to Dad and stares into his eyes, totally invading his personal space and freaking him out.

They then start a million questions about symptons etc then move on to ask questions like where he would like to spend his last days if treatment fails!

They are both totally freaked out by this and ask them to leave. They then phone consultant and ask that they don't call again!

Consultant then phones them later and apologises.

Don't understand why they were so obtuse, surely these people should have been better trained?
    They are still upset today.

Of course, this is their version of events and the truth maybe slightly different, but it is odd that they were both freaked out.
We didn't get any of that.

Had my nails gelled as a treat,
I have absolutely no idea what that even is.... gel is what greasy blokes do to hair.

Just got back from nearly a day in hospital, having an intra venous iron supplement. It's no big deal (I hope!), as my iron has been going down extremely slowly for the last 10 years, and they think I'm just not brilliant at absorbing iron. No big deal, I say, except that I had the iron infusion in the Chemotherapy ward. To repeat the phrase of the moment: this is "the most humble day of my life".

Because my treatment took so long, I got to sit next to several very ill people, who were having treatment that makes them feel awful. Yet, they were all so decent and upbeat about it. There was a simply lovely lady who had been told that she had 6 months left and was reasonably calmly telling me about the arrangements she was making.

And the staff were really really nice too.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

If I get a call in 2 hours saying "come and collect..." I'll just hang up. They can keep the old.

Actually, that is a very good strategy.

Also, insist on an OT assessment before you'll have your father home. Say it's unsafe. Say he left the gas fire on unlit. Say he's in danger of falling. Does not know where he is. Tried to decapitate himself .... That will put a spoke in the works.

If you simply say that you can't be bothered to go collect him they'll stick him in an ambulance and send him back. You can always bolt the door, I suppose, and they're not equipped to break in. :)

I read all this, and then suddenly the penny clicked. This is you, not PN! I am so, so sorry to hear that your parents have been subjected to this. Surely, it's a mistake? If things were this dire, surely they'd have heard it first from the medics? They have a right to know, and perhaps they ought to ask very pointedly where they stand. It may not be the news they want, or the people from the charity may have their wires crossed, but your parents deserve better than this.

    Gelled? Whassat?

    Have fun!

That is what I like about the nice people. That we are all so very different. Not one of my girl friends would not know what gelled nails are, even if they've never had it done.

Basically your nails get buffed then it is coats and coats of nail varnish-like stuff that is put on your nails by a trained bod with a sealant on top. After each coat your hand goes in an ultra violet or infra red thing to set it. The result is manicured and varnished nails that hopefully won't chip or smudge for 2-3 weeks.

Not to be confused with the acrylic nail shops that are on every high street, as the acrylic has to be drilled off and damages your nails. This is kind to your nails, allegedly.

Takes 40 minutes and costs £30, but if the results last over 2 weeks I'll be happy.

One week, hopefully in the sun, chilling.:j

It's lovely and sunny here in London. Where could be nicer than England in summer? Well, maybe Ireland in summer. Or Scotland in summer if it stops raining...

They were told the day before - 75% that the treatment will successfully contain things. Not complete eradication but controlled and prevented from spreading/ doing more damage and quality of life restored to near normal.

So they thought they were being given new info, but they weren't. Just people asking too many questions of the wrong sort, especially since its only 10 days since they were told it was C.
