Thanks Lydia....it is a fine line as a divorced parent with children to tread, I don't know how much to tell the boys and what to protect them from as I don't want the accusation of turning them against their father.

The boys though are of sufficient intelligence and maturity to now see for themselves (and talk for themselves!) how bad their father really is. Eldest's response to the post tonight was "Ah, the father who didn't even have enough to pay £20 towards a school trip, who pleaded poverty goes on holiday...what a blooming surprise" In less charitable moments he calls his father a very naughty word indeed (but not the naughtiest).

Middle son is now standing up for himself a little more, he took his paternal grandmother to task a few weeks back when she stated that his father didn't get enough holiday to have them, he informed her that he had a statutory right to 4 weeks holiday a year (he may be aspergic but he is not daft....although the information was a little nugget from youngest who reads up on various weird and wonderful things for his future business).

He is also planning on changing his surname when he is old enough and that will really floor his father, the middle son was always his favourite.....strangely, youngest is not planning on a change of name and ex hubby really couldn't have cared less about him (at one point he offered to take eldest or middle but never youngest for a break and never together), they never got on.

But yes, middle son especially will take his frustration out on me and the other boys and that is the last thing we need right now.....we have our family break coming up soon too.

Competition time: Facebook comments for SS's kids to post on their Dad's status.

"hi dad, can we have a holiday too"

"so excited that you can afford a holiday after all.....what time are you picking us up"

    :p

If I get a call in 2 hours saying "come and collect..." I'll just hang up. They can keep the old.

Best way, if you weren't around, the hospital would have to provide a suitable care package - let them put one in place.

    Hehe, I love it!

Alas, I have taught them to be too polite and not to wash our dirty laundry in public..and Facebook is very public. I am sure though that eldest will say something directly to him (if he ever answers his mobile phone)....he is not backwards in coming forward and will speak his mind - a trait my ex husband is disliking more and more as eldest uses sarcasm with it (and which is a horrible trait picked up from his mother according to his father)
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Every year there seems to be one day where ants develop wings. Today is the day, masses of flying ants everywhere.

    :)

Not that many flying ants here, but when it's warmish, the big ants come out

Dog-dog likes to chase and scratch them, so the back yard is littered with deceased ants.

I'm annoyed, Formula 1 coverage will be shared between BBC and Sky from next season.

No way I'm gonna subscribe to Sky, so I guess it will be down to the pub to watch the race.

Grrr, that will be me hunting for feeds on the internet for my F1 fix then.......no way can I afford to pay (or even justify) for a Sky Sports subscription.

My goddaughter's dad does that too. If she tries to say anything about how she feels or what she wants, all he can think about is that it is her mother's fault that she is rude. He does not hear the content of what she says at all.

It might be worth pointing out to your eldest, in a purely pragmatic way, that while sarcasm can feel very satisfying for the speaker, it is seldom an effective way to get the other person to be receptive to what you want to communicate.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

So parents had a visit from a cancer charity doctor and nurse, arranged by the consultant. I haven't a clue how or why this happened or who the charity is.

So they arrive, 2 ladies. One explains how they are experienced in dealing with severe cases - freaking Mum out. The other sits too close to Dad and stares into his eyes, totally invading his personal space and freaking him out.

They then start a million questions about symptons etc then move on to ask questions like where he would like to spend his last days if treatment fails!

They are both totally freaked out by this and ask them to leave. They then phone consultant and ask that they don't call again!

Consultant then phones them later and apologises.

Don't understand why they were so obtuse, surely these people should have been better trained?
    They are still upset today.

Of course, this is their version of events and the truth maybe slightly different, but it is odd that they were both freaked out.

On a happier note, I'm off on holiday tomorrow:j

One week, hopefully in the sun, chilling.:j

Had my nails gelled as a treat, for the first time ever. Why did I wait so long to discover this wonder? OH concerned that "nails gelled" is going to become a regular feature on the monthly expenditure list.
