BTW, private care is great for this sort of thing. If your parents have paid for BUPA, use it.
Something for me to look forward to: about the only thing I'm covered for now. Bupa won't touch me now for anything nuerological or endocrine.....I'm so riddled with pre existing. I am one huge preexisting.
My dad says he might pay for my thyroid to be whipped out for a Christmas present one of these years.:o
I always thought Private cover was a bit pants with other than the basic cancer stuff, good to read that is not so.0 -
That is a way of coping, isn't it? Abdicate responsibility to the medics.

Or perhaps, "We want to spare you the details. Hopefully, this is going to work out okay, so we don't want to worry you." Of course, that is about the least unworrying message they could give, but they mean the best by it.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Been and back. Viva's interfering got me some great results. I actually had a meltdown in Reception
Luckily I had somebody with me ... and she explained while I retrieved the phone I'd lobbed just before I sank
With the intermediary there, they explained things in simple language - and afterwards I got a phone call to say that we've two assessments booked now for needs. Stuff's falling into place... well, it's been kicked by the Nice People.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. We're so much closer to having things done right.
The Hospital had no parking available, except 500-600 yards up the hill. And no wheelchairs. On the basis 90% of their patients are probably needing a wheelchair, and there were about 20+ patients waiting when we arrived, there are two slots outside and that's it. As for chairs ... all gone to others that wanted them. That brought a logistics nightmare, which was dealt with. I had two that needed assistance walking, nowhere to park, no "set down" point (ended up parking on some red hatched area to let them out and leaving them while I went off to park and got back 15 minutes later). It's an appalling system. And the parking cost me just shy of £5.0 -
PN, so glad that Viva's thing helped!
(as your not touchy and she's not huggy I offer you both virtual gold stars)
Break down was probably much needed venting. Good for you
Get your new viva person to sort out/source mobility solutions. For frail but healthier old would a scooter be an option, could it be afforded?0 -

Always amazes me that hospitals are so incapable of organising their arrivals. I've seen people struggle with injured children, incapable of walking, can't be left while you park, can't be carried from car park....no wonder some people call ambulances when they could drive. At least in an ambulance you get escorted into the building.
I thought, but maybe wrong, that anyone diagnosed with a terminal illness could get a free parking disk from the hospital.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Reading your experiences, silvercar and Pastures, I am struck again by how lucky I am that my dad is a scientist. He can understand most of what the doctors tell him, he can remember it, and he can tell me about it without getting in a state or playing power games. My role is the comparatively minor one of finding out extra info online for him, and suggesting questions he might like to ask.
In other news, I have agreed with my neighbour which PV company we are going to go with. He's just waiting for his written quotation (the site visit was today) and I need to see about getting my consumer unit replaced. Then we can go ahead. They are giving us both a discount for being done together so giving economies of scale. They are also going to give me the payment afterwards for referring my neighbour. I am off out this evening to visit someone a few miles away who's got the panels and is having an open evening so prospective customers can go and see. It is looking as though I will have no option but to take not just my own two kids but an extra kid who belongs to a friend. I just hope they behave.
ETA Just heard I get to give the extra kid back to my friend before I need to leave to see the panels. So it will only be my own two. Phew. Some incentive to be quiet and let me concentrate would probably be useful, though.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Hello LydiaJ's children.
Whichever one of you is most well behaved tonight can have the first sit horse when you come to visit my house. Or if you don't like sitting on horses, whoever is quietist and most well bahaved can be the first to feed a biscuit to a dog or the first to stroke a chicken.
Just the first thing though. After that you get treated the sameExactly as well as you treat Mummy tonight
