I think you need a plan....how about saying to panicky sibling that you need four days straight to make a start on addressing your financial situation which has gone to pot and could sibling be in charge of parent and decision making for four straight days/five days/long weekend....what ever sibling and you can agree on. Explain that your income has bottomed and unless you do this now it will cause more inconveniance for everyone later.
It doesn't really work like that, my speshulness requires that I have a lot of isolation and long periods without interruption at all .... and as I've had to soldier on I've got this huge overwhelming urgency to hermit for the next few months. It'd also take me about a week of isolation to get my head fully in the zone to do what I do ... and I have a massive list of urgent things that need to be addressed, but one of the speshul features is being a unitasker. Unitasking isn't just about making a list and doing one thing at a time, it literally means that it can take days before one thing is fully concluded, which might involve several days of getting round to it before it starts... and if there are too many things on the list then it's hard to start any one.

I can't exercise 'discipline' like others do and simply make a list and work through them, that makes my mind spin.

Isolation is the only way I can get things done.

Can't really explain it but I need to disappear into my own little world for several months really - and can't live with the concept that the phone might ring.

OH lands in Sydney today:) or it may be tomorrow in your time. He left here last night.

It takes (approx) 36 hours to get here and 12 hours to get back on the clock assuming you fly straight though with just the refuelling stop in HK/Sing/Dubai/Japan. It's now 8pm on Friday night.

PM me for my mobile no. if he fancies a schooner with a friendly face or wants some ideas for stuff to do/restaurants/pubs.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    today I'm buying a chisel. :)

I've bought a woodburner to go in the kitchen which is going to be dh's study in the fireplace which hosts the dead boiler. The firplace has been assymetrically bricked/blocked in so I'm going to start on removing that bit this weekend. it feels like this could be nearing the end of my posting days, as I fully expect the house to fall down on me when I start. :)

Party at silvers! Just look for the whitecar in silvercar street and BAM!!

I'm sure you and FC would despair of my clothes sense - not remotely trendy, just things I like wearing.

I just bought this dress, for example, for the winter:

    http://www.marksandspencer.com/Una-Rose-Frill-Knitted-Dress/dp/B0052PSXLG?_encoding=UTF8&mnSBrand=core

But the picture shows the long version, and I bought the shorter one - a couple of inches above the knee. The long one was too frumpy for even my taste (-:

Hubby forgot to tell you that the bed came with free, lemon and green bikini top, silver glitter micro skirt and a pair of 8" red patent glitter wedges.

It's a good job Gen is sleeping :D;)

I'd advise you have a "hand protector" on your chisel or you may not be able to type, neverlo escape from the rubble :D

Got my most recent from these guys (actually used their ebay shop which was same price but could get some topcashback from ebay). They were the cheapest for the exact one I wanted (extra thick gauge, no tap hole anti slip no grab handles 1700x700). Other companies were cheaper for Kaldewei in general but didn't have that specific one in stock.

Michaels I'm after one of the Kaldewei baths for my bathroom. Did you buy it locally or off the net? I have an acrylic bath at the moment, I hate it.

This bit surprised me, not a million miles from you there are at least 10 houses on a street of less than 100 being worked on here.

I bet a builder has bought this house. A lot of the ones I know are slightly under-employed at the moment, so would see this as an opportunity to get a bit of a bargain:
    I think....

The house that went for 256k in the auction. I quizzed my friend on his costings. (So many questions, that he's now convinced I must have bought it. lol).

    Rough figures:

    8k SDLT
    2k legal
    4k double glazing
8k garden + back wall (the whole of the back garden is like a scaled down model of the alps apparently)
    4k rewire
    9k heating (boiler + rads)
    12k kitchen
    4k bath
    1k toilet (downstairs)
    1k doors
    13k garage coversion
    +6k contingency.

Ok. I haven't read through the whole thread yet, still catching up, but your friend knows some very expensive tradespeople! £9k on a boiler and rads for a small house?!

I'm sorry, that must be very distressing for you indeed.
