I got several years worth of stories out of them all, but I never got round to telling them how I knew so many different ones! They took a minute or two to memorise. Not as important as teaching them to read, obviously but better than using broadcast media for entertainment. :)

Thank you. She has been very anxious this morning, but we have just phoned the petshop who say that she is looking fine this morning, and no more of the weird stuff has appeared so far.

Is this pet shop code for saying that they have found a ringer? :D
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    Is the hamster pregnant?

Hm... remembering my youf, when I was a kid my pet mice used to start preparing for pregnancy by importing all kinds of weird stuff into the cages, in order to start the nest building phase.

Maybe I'm clutching at straws, but I don't think the hamster would look fine if it was actually ill... so... looking for other reasons. (especially as it doesn't really sound like worms to me. I haven't had hamsters, so I might be wrong).

Computer is playing up, so, not really getting anywhere with anything today.

Interesting thought, but I don't think she can be. We've had her since the end of August, which is longer than the gestation for hamsters.

I've racked my brains to think if there's anywhere she might be finding rice and bringing it into the cage on the occasions when she manages to escape, but I can't think of anywhere, and I especially can't think of anywhere she could be finding rice with whatever the red stuff is. OTOH, I don't see how the red stuff could be blood, because it stays red when dried, rather than going brown. It's all very mysterious.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I used to memorise these stories when I had to keep my kids entertained while chauffeuring them about .
My kids are now teenagers so I don't need these sites, but I hope they're of some use to you.

You've probably guessed I have precious few other talents that would impress kids, but at least they thought I knew every story in the world!:rotfl:

    Thanks - great site!

I just asked my son if he remembers me reading fairy stories to him years ago. He says dad did the best stories because he used to animate with voices. Dad used to read about once a week and he remembers that, rather than me reading every day!

Lydia, as you mentioned red stuff, can I point you to this hamster health page? Apparently there is a type of hamster food that turns their urine red. Has the food changed recently? There are more serious issues that are also pointed to, but they suggest looking at food first:

Spoke to neighbour yesterday ( the one with the I'll wife), she's had imunent pneumonia and had been in intensive care for 3 days. But she's recovering and should be home next week. They appreciated the card. Then I put my foot in it. By commenting on the cleaning van that had been outside the house on Thursday. Don't think I was meant to have noticed that as he assured me he could manage very well, it was just that flowers needed clearing because her lungs are vulnerable.
