We still had heating on in May and I don't like the thought of using it for so many months, it just seems wrong. However I've just checked the thermostat and its 17 degrees in here and I'm wearing fleece. Not good.
Haven't read any responses yet.
we're tough, really tough. And of course, my thyroid packing in means I'm very likely to feel the cold. I try and work on the principle that if I'm cold I'm not doing enough.
I lit the burner for guests yesterday and because there would be lots of sitting and talking, and it was lit before the cold spell, mainly to test it was working (dh and I re ropesealed it in August) and because it was cold.
I'm hoping to tough it out another month at least: unless I get a cold or something.
Its 14 degrees in the house atm....I got a new gizmo from british gas for free that tells me the electricity we are using and the temperature. And it says 14 degrees. I've just come in so I'm wearing a vest top and a blanket...and, um...thats it! (I'd been gardening so my clothes are filthy and got left at the door.)0 -
Lydia you and I are the same on this one - also grew up with ice on the inside of the windows on cold mornings and also now choose to keep house warm - strangely (imo) my sister's at least also have cold houses. .
I was brought up between London and hot places. I dislike extremes of temperature in general, but prefer cold, because you can do stuff to get warm, but there is not much you can do to cool down.0 -
Have now turned off the electric radiator as reading lir's soft pawn postings is quite enough to keep me warm.lostinrates wrote: »Haven't read any responses yet.

its a bit more hard core here when its really cold and dh is home but trying to do everything under the covers for fear of a draught (that doesn't look right...) getting in and freezing us is horrid.
I have to go and wash hair to go out but I keep putting it off because I am toasty in my blanket.0 -

Happy Birthday Misskool. Hope you are out having a wonderful evening.
News here is that weird stuff has been appearing in the hamster cage for the last week or so - looks like grains of rice stuck together with tomato puree and then dried out. So today we took advantage of the pet shop's policy that you can take the hamster back for help and advice if you feel for any reason that you need it. We took the hamster herself, and a sample of the weird rice-and-tomato-looking-stuff. Several members of staff looked at it and all said they had never seen anything like it, but the only thing they could think of was that it could possibly be worm eggs. So they have taken the hamster in for safe-keeping, will see how she gets on over the rest of the weekend, and take her to the vet on Monday. (So far, she seems quite bright-eyed, active and happy.)
DD is very anxious and tearful. Am hoping the vet will be able to diagnose it and treat it and we can have the hamster back home safely soon.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
