I would never have believed 3 months ago that the above was good news, but it is...in the scheme of things.

How is he feeling, emotioanlly? And your mother?

It tended to be that way, but there are some more advanced teaching roles now. All my friends who were good teachers either ended up as advisers or heads.....or they left and did something different & more profitable!

I think a good headmistress / -master is a lot more than just an admin person, though.

IME, Ok heads keep things ticking along nicely. The great ones are great teachers, who manage to enthuse and bounce a whole school along.

  • Bloody awful day today at my best friend's mother's funeral. More elsewhere, for privacy reasons.

Major tantrum this morning while dropping youngest at school (from youngest not me!) over the coloured overlays....he eventually put them in his school bag but he was not a happy bunny.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

He's fine, positive as ever. The doctor said this week that flying would be difficult as he has a higher risk of DVT, he said he was disappointed he wouldn't be able to go abroad for 20 years. (he thinks living to 90 is long enough!)

She's coping with the treatment a bit better I think, but still is in shock over the diagnosis. She has always been inwardly religious and now she has lost that, not on speaking terms with him above, would describe it. Which is a shame as its part of who she is.

Still the reported conversations with the consultant don't match between what he thinks the consultant said and what she thinks the consultant said.

It reminds me of a friend who lost her husband very, very suddenly. The anger has to be directed somewhere.

I'd forgotten about the taste thing
My old never ever got taste back, so was put off food and ended up not really eating more than 2 spoonfuls for the final 4 weeks.

I don't think my old ever understood what the consultant said ... having said that our consultant told me "months" when it was under 3 weeks. They actually tell you nothing.

If it's any help MIL comes away from these appointments having understood very little. First, as we get older, we retain less info. Second, we absorb the info much more slowly, so MIL may still be thinking about the consultant's first point when he's moved onto point number 4. So, she misses all the in-between bit. Hearing is a problem, too, so a lot of the attention is going into trying to hear what is being said rather than understanding the meaning. So, that's something for us all to look forward to.

There's also a bit of wishful thinking. Unless someone is with her at the meeting, MIL comes away swearing blind that the doctor just told her it's okay to continue smoking. :rotfl: She has mild COPD by the way.

As for the doctor saying months, when it turns out to be weeks, there are a couple of reasons. First, it may just be very hard to determine. Second, doctors tend to be optimistic, as they reckon that's good for the patient's morale.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I think we interviewed the builders we will appoint today. I hope their bid is as good as their manner. I really liked them....they were interested in the house and knowledgable and seemed professional but easy going. I think they are the sort of people I could live with on an off for many years :)

I hated the heating man who came though. He was slimy.

It looks like our ''nee kitchen study to be'' is about to fall down. I'm goint to take all the stuff out of the wall mounted cupboards and we're going to have the structural engineer come out with builders to prop it over winter. This is annoying: the planning delay might well cause probalmes now....its getting to late for lime mortars, so it will probably be propped until next spring.

    |Then, this afternoon I had a crash course in hedgehog whispering. Spinathon is a boy :)
