What a brilliant tool Stevie! Thanks for the intro. I would have loved to see my granddad talking about fighting fires at Woolwich Arsenal and the docks in WW2, or my great uncles' stories of being in the SAS under David Stirling in WW2 or on the Burma Railroad. Sadly those histories are now long lost. Its good that other families will get the chance to record these.
On the subject of "personal accounts" history, there's a group of books that have made history interesting again for older children and they are lapping them up, which is good to see. It's this series:

This is a great screen shot that I saw watching Tripoli trending on Twitter.
Plays right into the rumours that "Americans don't do geography"....
CNN get the wrong country:

Hopefully Sara Sidner knows where she really is.

Where's that gravy ramper....? Finally got round to trying it with my chips.... not impressed. It's just gravy - and not brilliant gravy. On the basis you get the same amount of gravy as curry sauce, for the same price, gravy feels a right rip off. Curry sauce ftw.
No gravy for me ever again. Fact.0 -

changi is my favourite transfer airport as well - loads of space and loads of places to get away from the idiots! the transit hotel is pretty handy, and you can get a good walk in, i usually walk all the way around the U and back as quickly as i can to get the blood flowing again.
It is. It's built on a floating island I think (not positive about the last bit).
The old Hong Kong was the coolest place to land. If you don't know it, google it. The pilots used to have special training to land there.0 -
LIR, look out for mobile breast clinics. We have one that occasionally visits our Tesco car park. Just sits there for a day or two for literally walk-in-without-appointments. There must be someway of finding out where the mobile breast clinic in your area is visiting on any given day.
Thinking about it our Tesco car park also has drop-in mobile hearing clinics and blood donor clinics sometimes as well as hosting the big brother overflow queue and loads of foodie promotions. (I thing daddybear or someone with a name like that is a doctor in that area so would know how valid those concerns are or not) and davesnave would know.
Hmm, don't know the latest situation. I've had some pretty dire experiences in the RUH over the years though.
I think these places are curate's eggs. My Dad had excellent care there for eyes and a cancerous finger, but my dental op was just lunacy from the moment I walked through the door. I had the impression that I'd walked into a medical sit-com...
I've no major complaints about their A&E though. Like most folk, I've ended up there a few times. The funniest was when I was being stitched-up for a head wound and the nurse ran out of the room, crying. It was her first day there. While someone went to fetch her back, the doctor asked, "Would you do me a favour when we retrieve Nurse Blenkinsop? Please reassure her that this procedure is painless."
Fine, and maybe my demeanour gave a few clues, but no one had actually troubled to ask if I was feeling any pain!!!:rotfl:0 -
taking this thread on a different turn, we've had fresh fresh fresh corn on the cob 2 days running. i can't believe what a big difference the taste is. It's not starchy and just beautiful.
I remember when my family was in America when I was little. We visited a friend of my dad's on his farm outside Chicago. (IIRC I had my 7th birthday there.) He grew corn, and told us that it should always be eaten within 17minutes of picking.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0
