I don't think his comment was racist at all. Cynical perhaps, but justifiably so.
He's referring to an incident in Jan 2010 where a group of Mossad agents used cloned passports of British and Irish tourists who had previously visited Israel to travel to Dubai and assassinate a senior member of Hamas in a Hotel. The UK and Irish governments protested strongly to Israel about it. (but not strongly enough IMO)
Now I don't actually have much of an opinion on agents of the state of Israel murdering people in hotel rooms in Dubai, any more than I take a position on them murdering foreign peace activists or Palestinian children. And indeed of Palestinian's blowing up buses and cafe's full of Israelis and tourists. Both sides of that conflict are as bad as each other.
What I do have a problem with is Israel cloning the passports of British tourists and using them in an operation in a British tourist hotspot to kill someone.
That's just an egregious breach of international law that endangers the lives and liberty of innocent people who merely visited Israel on holiday.
And it's one of many reasons why I wouldn't visit Israel on holiday, and would actively discourage friends and family from visiting.
I'm curious now, Hamish. If you could safeguard this country from terrorist attack by assassinating one of the organisers, would you regard doing that as akin to the killing of children? I'm afraid that I wouldn't. I wouldn't rejoice in doing it, but I'd regard it as a necessary evil.
There is so much wrong with your post, full of half-truths and false implications.
Anyway, I'm off. I'll be back in a few days to see whether things have improved here.No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

But he was also referring to my saying that my OH and our son can't visit Dubai, because of the ban on Israelis. He then said that Israelis could fake passports if necessary, with that reference.
It was that to which I objected, strongly....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

On the sliding scale of evil, one is obviously less evil than the other. But Israel has done both, as indeed have Israels opponents.
But as I say, that has little to do with why I wouldn't visit there. There is so much wrong with your post, full of half-truths and false implications.
Everything I wrote is factual. Agents of the state of Israel have killed children, peace activists and members of Hamas. And agents of various groups opposed to Israel have done at the least equally appalling things, some would say worse.
But I'm not taking a position on who is wrong or right here..... As neither side of that conflict can ever legitimately claim to be right.
I'm just stating that any country that clones passports of it's tourist visitors and then uses them for it's intelligence agency to assassinate opponents in other countries is somewhere I won't be visiting.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

No, what he said was.....
"Don't worry, I am sure Israelis can still travel there using forged passports of other countries should they need to dispense some 'justice'"
I don't think he was suggesting that your OH and son could? It was that to which I objected, strongly.

Come on peeps, let's not turn this thread into endless bickering on Israel/Palestine issues.
Never been to Dubai, and I share some of the views expressed by others here that the place seems to lack cultural identity, but I sure would like to check it out.0 -
Anyone signed the e-petition?A petition calling for Hillsborough disaster Cabinet papers to be released has reached 100,000 signatures - enough for a Commons debate to be considered.

I and many other football and non-football fans have signed, including those of arch-enemy Man Utd, besides I am sucker for wanting to see what the authorities don't wish me to see

I am perfectly happy wherever I am at any particular point in time, and would rather stay there than travel.
Does seem a pity to have an argument on this thread, though, whoever is in the right.

What has our favourite economist been up toIn 2006 I was advised by someone calling themselves an expat IFA (not in China) to invest in a Vision Plan with Generali. I have recently spoken to an IFA in the UK and have been told that this is not a great situation to be in. Having done futher research, this seems to be entirely accurate and I am kicking myself for not having done a Google search 6 years ago.
