What i mean is you could say half the world has slave labour but you hold it against Dubai because you have other issues with that place/ culture.

I agree with LIR. Why pick holes in places other people like?

Edit: Comment removed from NP thread as not appropriate for this thread but I don't think it was racist.

I am also going to be a bit Voltaire and say that I don't agree with leaving things unsaid just because saying them might cause offence 'I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write'
Is that kind of racism really called for in the NP thread?

:( Doubly disappointed that you can make a comment like that and that you don't think its racist. :(

Its the lack of culture that make it a place I have no interest in visiting. Great to stay in a smart place with amazing facilities, but there is no history or culture.

OK, I agree with this. But with the rights including the VITAL free speech, comes the responsibility of knowing when to voice thoughts both for continued functionality AND for best protest impact.

#fwiw, I thought my comment was a bit ''bony'' on the subject and almost didn't type it.

Free speech with no valve for when and where and how just becoes babble. Which I know all about because it happens to be something I am excellent at. Babbling, that is.

Today its raining again, but it does feel like a summer rain, not that cold, bleak autumnal stuff we had last week and on Saturday.

Also, a question.....does anyone know whether walk in centres would do a breast examination? If its something I have to go to the gp to check then I'm positive there is nothing wrong, but if I can get it checked woithout tackling GPsurgery phobia, even if by a gp then maybe I should.:o (I also think I should get a referral to an ENT person...I've had horrid congested ears you guys advised me on for almost a year now and its starting to drive me potty. GP, when I did go, just said to keep taking sudafed...pharmasist said, stop taking sudafed.....)

    we have rainnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

which means more blight. but we tasted the first home grown sweetcorn this year and omg, i could have died and gone to heaven.

lir: I would go and see a gp for all the problems. I know you don't like them but maybe shop around until you find someone that you like? GPs are terribly trained and I'm surprised normal people can put up with them. I go incognito at GPs (no customary title and no indication of what I do, ergo how much I know) and see how they treat people and it irritates me. :)

You should go to your GP lir. At your age they should get it checked by ultrasound NOT mamogram. My mother's breast cancer was never found on mamogram and by then it had spread to both breasts because if breast tissue is dense (as it tends to be in younger women) it cannot so easily be seen on a mamogram whereas ultrasound does pick it up. GPs are also best placed to refer you on if there's a problem. Of course the vast majority of "lumps" in young women are not cancer, but should still be checked out in case.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

We're lucky that we have a pratice in one of the nearer villages, but I HATED the GP. We tried the one in the nearest town (same ''group'' and even dh felt queasy there). Looked to the next one, same group. The next nearest practise USED to be my best friend's father (nice guy but not very good doctor) but now he's gone....I might try there.

The problem is in my head I now see GPs as an obstacle to accessing health care, something that sets you back not opens the gate to the correct treatment. Logically I know that's not true, but emotionally I can't help it. Its even extended to gps I know want to help me. (friends, private gp in London and my last, very good NHS GP....who keeps asking my mother how I am and offering to call) surgeons/consultants etc I'm fine with...proceedures I don't get squeamish or silly about...I find them quite interesting.

I'm, pretty sure this is ''hormonal'' sort of stuff, nothing scary. That my sister is having treatment is probably making me paranoid.

I'm afraid I'll have to jump in here, in the nicest way possible.

I don't think his comment was racist at all. Cynical perhaps, but justifiably so.

He's referring to an incident in Jan 2010 where a group of Mossad agents used cloned passports of British and Irish tourists who had previously visited Israel to travel to Dubai and assassinate a senior member of Hamas in a Hotel. The UK and Irish governments protested strongly to Israel about it. (but not strongly enough IMO)

Now I don't actually have much of an opinion on agents of the state of Israel murdering people in hotel rooms in Dubai, any more than I take a position on them murdering foreign peace activists or Palestinian children. And indeed of Palestinian's blowing up buses and cafe's full of Israelis and tourists. Both sides of that conflict are as bad as each other.

What I do have a problem with is Israel cloning the passports of British tourists and using them in an operation in a British tourist hotspot to kill someone.

That's just an egregious breach of international law that endangers the lives and liberty of innocent people who merely visited Israel on holiday.

And it's one of many reasons why I wouldn't visit Israel on holiday, and would actively discourage friends and family from visiting.

No. Please please please check it out.

A girl at work found a lump and it is BC. She paid for surgery and is undergoing chemo followed by radio now. She's 38.

I absolutely understand what you feel about your GP being in the way. I needed a referral to physio and my GP REFUSED even though I knew the exact problem (recurring) as she couldn't be bothered to read through the previous notes. I've even stopped going for the current problem until I figure it out myself before going back.

But my problems aren't life threatening and you need constant assessment and care, so make sure the notes keep being made.
