In any case, my breasts are still covered by BUPA so once I get a referal I can do it through that. I might just bite the bullet and find a localish private gp and do it that way. At least when you pay for it you feel some little control and are treated like a human being.

if you've got BUPA won't it cover most of the cost of a private GP visit. i have BUPA through work and used a private GP at canary wharf to get a physio referral because it was easier than missing 1/2 day of work to go to the GP at home, think it cost me £50 or something like that which is presumably quite a bit less than 'cost price'.

i was right effed off when i got to the GP only to discover that there was an (empty) NHS walk-in centre right next door!!

I didn't think it did cover private gp. I've never seen the policy tbh. Its provided through DH's employers.

I'll ask him to have a look.

i've just looked at mine, and i'm lying - it wasn't subsidised at all. but it wasn't that expensive either, and if money isn't particularly tight probably better than trawling around trying to find an NHS GP which doesn't look horrible.

i was definitely not lying about being miffed by the NHS walk in centre being next door though! it's shut now, cos of the cuts, obviously.

lol. Thank you very much for checking.

I think I should probably find a local gp anyway, so not a wasted exercise. Its a fair trek to salisbury for a GP (which is where I'll look for a private gp) if you are immeadiately but not urgently grotty and grim.

Some policies with Bupa cover diagnosis, some don't. Luck of the draw which option the employer choose. Worth reading the policy, though.

I honestly wonder if a nhs walk in clinic would do the exam, as well.

i wasn't particularly recommending a walk-in centre for these particular purposes, just recalling my discontent at having paid for something at the time that i could have personally got for free. although the walk in centre was actually quite useful in the following months, as they removed the stitches from two facial injuries i managed to accrue in as many months.

taking this thread on a different turn, we've had fresh fresh fresh corn on the cob 2 days running. i can't believe what a big difference the taste is. It's not starchy and just beautiful.

Picked up some from Morrisons this evening to have tomorrow - hopefully next year we can grow some of our own next year :) I can't believe we have not BBQ'd once this year, the weather and having to cross the building site to get to the garden have just been too off-putting. Corn is great on the BBQ tho...mmmm
    I think....

I am not sure if I picked up this web site off someone on here or not, anyway apologies if I did but worth a look, it contains first hand interviews with people involved in famous world events. I think we have all thought that these things should be captured for posterity and now they are.
