There is nobody else. It's just me now. And I have a huge list of essential stuff to do first thing in the morning that must be done.

Pastures, there is help out there, but you may need to pay and get it back from your parent's estate later. You should be able to hire a home help who comes in to the house and cooks meals for the well old and looks after them while you are out doing the important stuff so you don't have everything to do yourself. Another alternative would be to drop the well old at a daycare centre but I think that would take yet more organising. You should be able to find out about getting a home help in from either social services at your local council (the county one probably) or from your GP. If you don't get anywhere, don't forget you can call back to the advocacy service, tell them what you need and ask for their advice as to how to get it.

    Good luck.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I've got the daycare centre on this morning's to do list. As for Adult-SS, well old is in the system, but nothing's been put in place yet - and you can't phone them and when they phone we're out (not that they have really). It's been 3 weeks I think since I phoned Adult-SS and said "Hello" for the first time; they've been out/done an assessment and made a call saying some handrails would be fitted and we have to get a bank account set up for inbound money.... sibling was dealing with that in past two weeks. It's just been the weekend (when nothing happens of course), but it seems a long time for me as life doesn't stop happening.

Also, the system seems to be that you're assessed and awarded money (heard 2nd hand an amount now), but then you still have to find people to do the actual work (more calls), they allegedly give you a list of some agencies or something. You then get the money and you organise all the helpers yourself and pay them from the dedicated bank account you've set up for that money (it's audited).

It's all more jobs to do - the system here is that you phone a number and you leave a number and they call you back ..... could be 1 day to 1 week. You can't get through to anybody for anything in these parts; everything is a central call centre. And if you've not much time to set things up then the system's too slow.

Also, I don't want the old to miss 'the last visit', I'd hate to have them miss that.... although no clue when it would be.

All these ideas/suggestions, still take more time to phone, wait for call backs, be available to receive call backs etc. Systems expect you to be sitting at home all day waiting for call backs, they're not designed for instant response/answers.

I love living in London - it's a fantastic place. Everywhere has its downsides, of course, but I love it anyway.

Yep and I enjoyed it too for the 18 months I lived there, but I prefer not living there and just visiting friends instead.
The constant bustle is tiring after a while, the lack of open spaces without a trip, the lack of a garden all outweigh the fun of the inordinate amount of totty and the inordinate number of pubs.
After all I'm only allowed one at a time of those nowadays and the mrs seems to think she's got first dibs on me anyway. :D

a very pink and red and wasted little leg has emerged from under dog-dog's dressing. Its free to the air, and she's not sure about that at all. We're hoping she'll leave it aloneotherwise she has to wear a muzzle. And the horse is feeling pretty perky.

The weather is yummy, so dog dog and I might have a nap in the healing sun. :)

Pastures - all good wishes coming your way. Much of what you type reminds me of some of my experiences 5+ years ago...

Doozer, for going to London I've generally gone onto virgin trains website. If you book more than 21 or 28 days in advance you get 1 way tickets for £7. How is the book reading going?

Misskool sorry to hear about the blight. I've had leaves changing colour (bit like tomterm) & feared the worst. Have been taking branches off & hoping they survive. So far, all the plants are still ok & the fruit is coming along, however nothing has ripened yet.

I harvested my beetroot this weekend (all 5 of em!:o). Also had my first onion, and my first ever helping of corned beef hash. Picked some beans for the freezer.

I can't understand what is going on with the peppers. They appear as though flowering is imminent, but the flowers aren't opening?
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Are you a late riser? Capsicums over here only open their flowers for a couple of hours after sunrise and briefly before sunset and only for a day or so. Perhaps you missed them.

I have one of those enormous collar things (like a lampshade) that prevent them licking their wounds. Would that be any use to you?
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
    :)

No, if she bothers it I'll pop a muzzle on her. Her legs are so long she could probably swing them up inside the Buster collar, and tbh, the main issue with greys is that they have teeny little heads on quite chunky necks (which is why you usually see them wearing funny shaped collars ) so it would probably keep coming off her any way!

    but thank you!

I have my computer back, so I'm going to download and send some piccies today. :) Although the machine I've been using is more efficient and works better, mine is mine and I'm used to its little foibles.

More a lazy b4stard than a late riser;). That said, the flowers don't even look like they've ever opened.

I did plant everything very late this year, so to be honest any crop is a godsend!

It's quite early yet for peppers, though they ought to be forming by now. Are yours outdoors? My outdoor ones are not doing much, but they have fruit on them. They're only being grown outdoors because I hope to sell them, so I don't want them to get too large/need a re-pot. Tight, I am! :D

We're just starting to eat some red peppers, but only the F1 Redskin type, which are weird things; all short & stubby, with peppers much too big for the overall plant size. They aren't especially thick walled either. They're being grown under plastic.

It will be better when the normal ones start to turn red. We have an Italian one called 'Marconi,' which is productive and easy. If you've a frost free conservatory/big window, you can keep peppers going almost until Christmas. :)
