my sweet peas, normally so reliable, are dismal this year. They just haven't bothered!
Weather has been so unpredictable I defrosts a ham for this weekend....I never know whether to plan something hot and comforting, or nourishing but not too heavy, or just cold.
Also, I usually boil ham in summer and bake in winter...but I baked this one. Its just gone in with the glaze on to be eaten with freshly dug potatos and a yummy salad. I think its possibly the most appropriate meal we will have had for ages!0 -
we have freshly dug potatoes!
now need to ripen some tomatoes indoors and finish clearing up outside.
just about recovered from the blight drama0 -

HEHEHE house and garden....its all a tip here ATM...:o:o:o I'll have to clean up a bit before a NP visits me. I did get most of the grass cut today. That's something.:D
I've also got the backlog of dogs washing done (don't normally have so much in the summer) Hope this weather is here tomporrow afternoon when I'm back from the vet hospital!

Our meal plan is simple at the moment: Mutton / Hoggit. Pretty much every (main) meal.
We managed to get Hebridean mince this time round. Shepherd pie with it is marvelous.
... We need to make some room in our chest freezer... had a huge roast today, so I suppose we will have a lot of meat cooked for the next few days.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

I got some lovely lamb from ''up the hill''. Delicious: very excellent, I'm pleased. I also might have swapped use of a barn at lambing time for some lamb next year. But mutton not yet found here. We have decent beef in the villages and some good if pricey pork.
I like shepherd's pis best when with left over roast..or a mixture of leftover and mince is even nicer IMO. If I had special hebridean mince I think it would be finding itself becoming koftas or burgers:o:o
You lucky, lucky man!0 -

Well old was hoping the tomatoes they planted together would be red so ill old could at least see them (isn't eating, so won't eat one), before they departed.... it's not looking good unless they ripen tonight by some miracle. I think the end might be this week .... there's been further deterioration and mutterings....
I also left well old alone all day as they weren't fit for making the trip to see ill old ... and it's ended in tears as I've come home to an almost electrocuted well old and microwave broken.... so that can't be used and I have no time to source a replacement, so they'll just have to eat cold sandwiches when left alone for the next few days/weeks. It's an oven/micro and under the turntable there's a big grill element, which they managed to catch/drop/spill half a mug of coffee into.... so somewhere inside the electrics at the base there's a whole shedload of watery stuff floating about.0 -
I hope all goes as well as can be hoped with correct pain meds. I don't find it easy to say things on here but like all the other nice people my thoughts are with you.
I fixed the turntable motor on our micro/oven/grill thank and the little motor was the only bit of electronics at the bottom so you might get away with opening the case letting the fluid out and letting it all dry out.
Having spent 10 days in Devon I understand much more what you mean about no/expensive shops - round here I would just nip to tesco/argos and get a new one for about 40 quid - where I was the small town (10 mins on silly roads with lots of reversing) has 2 supermarkets but neither large enough to stock a micro/conv oven and thus still has an overpriced independent electrical retailer. I expect petrol to be more expensive but I can easily see that the cost of living overall would be 10%+ higher than herePasturesNew wrote: »Well old was hoping the tomatoes they planted together would be red so ill old could at least see them (isn't eating, so won't eat one), before they departed.... it's not looking good unless they ripen tonight by some miracle.
