You were relatively lucky. My grandmother ended up in some totally unsuitable place, having been moved by the hospital when too ill to return home. By the time the family got the authority to move her and found a suitable place, she lasted less than 48 hours.
We thought Dad would maybe last a couple more years, so he needed somewhere that would take his huge, solid furniture. A rambling vicarage, with massive rooms and antiques, was just the ticket.
Had I known such a place existed, I'd have persuaded him to go in there two or three years earlier. He thought he was staying while we did his house up, which was almost true.:o Within days, we'd gutted the place, but that was for selling it to pay the fees!0 -

So I thought it'd be a nice bungalow within a complex, but now I realise it's the next stage really... some independent living space within a building where meals are provided and they just have to trot down for them. So I've one book for end of life care for ill old (had to go out and view them and choose even though they might never make that move) and another for various forms of residential care (which the well old is saying they want to do).
Getting POA set up for well old (in case), I'll take control of all financials and the house (as live in caretaker/security) until it's sold.
Wishing you well PN......good luck with finding the right places for both of them.
On the floor issue; Carpets..have a peek underneath. Could be some decent parquet in the main lounge/front room.
Swept floorboards and large rugs over the top (that can be taken when you sell) could be a good move or a deep steam clean (if no bare patches and holes) to freshen them up and rugs as large as possible over the top.
I have heard the same as the others posted about doing nothing apart from clean if a house needs the lot done.lostinrates wrote: »You are doing an amazing job.

Things have quietened down locally (most looters either got arrested or are worn out) and we are now on a manic run before we go away on the 20th. I have an insane workload to get the first production ready to go.
I am shouting at myself for having no confidence as I should have booked the 1st of the new ranges in already so we can deliver 4 weeks sooner but I didn't as thought we should wait and see if anyopne liked them first (as very different from current ranges). ......dumb move as they have sold really well (to wholesale only) so now I am in a panic to get them going through and all customers want these styles in store now.
Have been battling with my new CAD pattern cutting doing the grades this week and I am getting better but I have to keep refferring to the manual and have made a few errors which *phew* I noticed before we made many hundreds of them.
Have also had a rotten cold (haven't had one for years) and can't seem to kick it.
Nice day today as went into studio to put back up mannequins (we had to buy a further 8 for the trade show last week) and install part of the pop up shop fit we used in holy grail. Looks fab....just like a swizzy shop (but with no footfall apart from wholesale people).
I also have a nice new office as we cleared out the 4th room just for me to hide in all on my own.:)
Tomo am I am sleeping in for as long as I can as 1st proper day off now for about 23 days.
Regards to all the NP's......:)0 -

There are a few places. Can't think of 'em now though. I'm usually more interested in where is free in the evening. If push comes to shove and I pay congestion charge I can get free parking in the City..but its not ''my patch'' and I don't know where any thing is from a car and I don't know little routes to places...and its not usually where I want to meet any one in the evening. So I normally park somewhere thats free at the end of congestion charge on NDG's patch and walk or ...taxi....to where I want to be.0 -
I tend to take the tube into London from further out but sometimes drive in and street park. The free street parking does seem to be a bit further away from the tube in most instances though. Last time I drove in (earlier this year) there was some good free street parking in South Ken. May be worth a google. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Oh well, we are back home.
Eldest was in two minds about coming home, he didn't want to as he made many many friends there (a rarity!) but then he also wanted to be home so he could replenish his money having spent it all being away....he was at his part time job for 9am this morning.
We arrived home in time to see our local carnival procession, something we all enjoy seeing (costs nothing and is very entertaining) but then it was back to catching up with the washing, unpacking and sorting out my number two in charge on my site who was at breakdown/going to quit level after having to cover me for two weeks - he now knows why I stress and moan about it so much.
It was nice to be home in one way, decent size toilet for one thing but not so nice in others, stairs....but looking forward to picking the cat up in about an hour, god I have missed him.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

So good it's worth repeating. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
we went to a little honey thing to day at lacock abbey. It was very nice but...!!!!!!...£15.50 to get on to look at a handful of stands of honey etc TO BUY. First they tried to charge £17.70. Two quid wasn't much of a discount but still.....£15.00
we did taste some nice honeys though, including the most amazing african one that tasted of five spice. still......£15!!!!0 -

There seems to be a hefty charge to get into the abbey and grounds. Did they charge you for that even though you were only going into the honey exhibition? No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

yep, it was the only way in. Lacock is very, very beautiful and worth a visit, but...not everytime you go to something in the grounds there...especially when it turns out to be very piddly. Its been widely advertised as ''bee and honey DAY and though it was lovely and charming it was more like bee and honey half hour (if you pay more and have a cuppa), or, if you're strolling, bee and honey 45 mins. I went to a christmas craft fair at Lacock too, and basically paid to go to stands of shops that are mainly in Devizes, so could have just gone to devizes. I won't make that mistake again though! I really dislike the National trust often.
Especially as its summer today.....we just gave big dog a bath and she's so happy.Normally they get several baths in the summer, but its been miserable weather. Dog-dog can hoave a bath next week too when the splint is off, though she's not as keen as big dog
