    Better get to court, then.
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.

There have been reports of panic shopping in Hampstead. The shelves are completely bare of 2005 Beaujolais.

Spoke to the gasmen outside. They had to dig up the drive because they can use metal detectors to find where the (old) metal pipes lie but can't find plastic pipes that way. When the extension on our house was done the meter was moved and new plastic piping was laid from a certain point onwards. They will replace brick paving and make good within 5 working days. So that's all fine, but it does beg the question of what they do when the new pipes they are replacing down the road need replacing, how will they find them? They've been up and down the road with metal detectors and digging holes everywhere to locate the old pipe that is being replaced, in 20 years time, how will they find the new stuff?

DH's cousin went to have a look see last night in wood green, but nothing kicked off.

TBH, I think people should keep in, keep their errant teens in and let them take more aggressive action against them. I think part of the problem is with reports of so many of them being 14 yo who wants to set a water canon on them. IMO May is being too soft. While innocent people's businesses, employment, homes and buildings smash and burn....time to get out the big but not fatal guns.

Give the Met pistols and people would think twice about charging them. I don't like the police being routinely armed and always felt it was not terribly British. However you can't let the mob rule.

I'm very tired as well due to watching Australia lose in the cricket again last. It never gets old.

Driving to folks today, with eldest for company.

Interesting to see how journey time compares and petrol vs. train fare.

Oh well, I'm up. Ended up watching the riot until 1pm last night, then decided it just wasn't healthy.

You've got to say, those people are b astards.

edit: this story http://www.dailytech.com/Earths+Dirty+Secret+Our+Magnetic+Field+Traps+Antimatter/article22375.htm is cool.

Insurance policies often exclude damage due to riots. Is there some central government pool for that sort of thing, or are owners just left with a pile of ashes?

Depends. More often than not, owners are left with the ashes option. Theoretically it can be covered by the compensation agency if the police consider it a riot.

Got to send the notice in within 10 days. How many people know how to do that? Very few.

I think they have metal couplings between the plastic sections. Also, how do you know they haven't thought about this and incorporated a bit of metal in the plastic pipes? Or even, heavens forbid, they are making accurate records now?

We will just have to invent a plastic detector

Utility companies are increasingly using ground penetrating radar. As it gets cheaper, they will use it more and more (it is, for practical purposes, cheaper than digging up peoples drives but still pretty expensive. Only really been around for the last ten years).
