Yay to ds :T:T:T but I'm sorry to hear about your dad :(.

I was only wondering about how he was a couple of days ago; that you hadn't mentioned him in a while. You may find that once your dad does go into a home, he thinks of it as a hotel. That was what my fil thought his care home was a while ago. Unfortunately they think he has had another stroke as he has deteriorated quite rapidly in the last month or so, so much so they now have to feed him and give him his drinks.

Will you try to get continued health care for him?

A lurker here just wanted to say I can't believe the sheer selfishness of your ex, I can't believe he would want him in that environment especially without you being there you wouldn't know what rubbish he might be putting into your ds's head an extra stress he doesn't need to be dealing with at his age.

Thankyou both, I'm glad its not just me that thinks the ex is being bang out of order (yet again) over this one  (and Dueyb, now that you've delurked please keep posting ;)). I am coming round more and more to the idea of just saying no to it, I have gone 38 years without going to a prison and its not something I want ds to have as a childhood memory

Good for you with that decision, I think I would be saying the same.

Being suspicious, is there any chance the ex-in laws may take ds to visit his father without telling you first? Am only thinking that you mentioned that there was a suggestion that he stays over at theirs (I think) and this would give them time to take him.

Maybe an undertaking that the out laws do not take DS to visit is the way forward.
No undertaking = no staying over.

Sorry for not replying last night, was on the phone to my brother for lots of it ...

I think there is a chance they may try to take ds to visit him, but I will spell it out very clearly to them that it is my decision and if they go against my wishes they will be jeopardising their time with ds ;) I'd like to think that as a fellow mother his mum may understand where I'm coming from (especially as she hasn't visited him herself yet as she doesn't like the idea of seeing him in prison ), but who knows, its her son after all so her loyalty is to him. I'm just hoping that she puts ds first rather than her son :o

De-lurking to agree that ex is way out of line. Does he really WANT his son to see him in prison? What a numptie.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
