She said I wasn't entitled to a gift card because it was a cashier error not a system overprice. I asked her what the difference was as I had still been overcharged by Asda. I asked politley with zero attitude but she launched straight into...."if you are DEMANDING a card I can give you a card". I explained I wasn't demanding anything but wanted an answer! She rang a manager who told her to give me a card. She gave me a card, with no apology and checked with another passing t/leader. I told her she was too late because I had it in my purse already!
I have emailed head office to winge about the cowbag on CS and to ask for clarification of the policy. I shall keep you posted!
Turns out I was right! Asda head office rang me yesterday to tell me I was right and the store rang me today so say sorry and that they are training all staff so it doesn't happen again! And there is a £10 card waiting for me at CS! HA! Whoop! :jTrying hard...failing miserably

Odd, I've just noticed this thread. I've had refunds for overcharges several times at asda Pernryn. No one has ever offered me any compensation? Hmm0

In my local branch you definitely have to ask for the gift card. You shouldn't have to, but there you go.
I was overcharged today & was about to be given just a refund. I said "Yes but I thought" & she interrupted me & said (through gritted teeth!!) yes I'm just getting it:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -
i can echo everythng said, bad CS that puts the blame on you for their mistake (i was argued with "yes but i took the sign down earlier, it cant possibly be the wrong price!" well it was!) and the gift cards have to be asked for. :mad:0

I must be unlucky, I've never been over charged at Asda, my local Tesco on the other hand are incapable of getting prices right and resent giving refunds when you point out there error. As for Asda's price guarantee, I've only once been able to claim on that when my shopping would have been 2p cheaper at Tesco.0

It is important that you notice per overcharge. For example if you bought a multibuy 2 for £1.50 and you were charged £1.80 you would get one gift card. If you bought 4 (i.e 2 x 2 for £1.50) you would still only get one gift card as it is one gift card per overcharge.
However if you bought 2 for 1.50 and also bought something for £2.25 and were charged £2.50 you would get 2 x £2 gift cards as you were overcharge twice.
Policy might have changed, but as someone who works on the Customer Service Desk, and always gives a £2 gift card when overcharged, the Policy I read was that is was once on a receipt, not per item. But can clarify next week.0 -
hello anyone thereIf you dont like the answer why ask the question:D0

I had an overcharge a few weeks ago and was told they no longer gave gift cards.............seems they were wrong.0
-
Just to let everyone know, I checked policy in the week.
Asda gives £2 gift card for each "separate" overcharge. IE if you purchased 10 items the same, and were overcharged, you would get one £2 gift card, but if you purchased a completely different item, and got overcharged, you would also get another £2 gift card.
Sorry about the confusion.0 -
My CS is ok and nearly always give the giftcard cheerfully but they did point out that you did not get one if the overcharge was on the self service till. Then you only get a refund. Presumably it is your own responsibility to watch the screen as you swipe and pack!0
