Completely false about self scan - I would just have called the Duty Mgr. Whenever they have tried it on about not giving me the £2 giftcard, either the request to call the Mgr works and CS backtrack or the Mgr arrives and deals with the issue in about 5 seconds ie simply says 'give him a giftcard, it was a misprice'. They know the policy and don't want any hassle.

My local store (Tunstall) doesn't give out the £2 cards any more. I was overcharged last week and only got the correct amount refunded, I asked about the £2 gift card and the CS person said they'd stopped it ages ago.
  • We should name and shame the branches that don't do it - my local one (Cramlington, Northumberland) hasn't done it for a long long time, I just assumed the policy had changed. Will definitely ask next time I'm overcharged (shouldn't be too long a wait, they're always doign it!)

It's still Asda company policy so I'd challenge that. First ask to speak to the Mgr (and get his name) - perhaps mention you know it is Asda policy so a further refusal will prompt you to call Asda HQ. I imagine the Mgr will immediately confirm that it is indeed Asda policy and give you the giftcard. But if it fails, email Asda HQ and they will sort it out.

I definitely would not accept what some checkout miss says on the CS desk! :D

I have a strong suspicion that many Mgrs instruct the CS team to never volunteer a giftcard and try to refuse them when customers savvy enough to know about Asda policy here ask for them.

My lot NEVER volunteer a giftcard but these days always hand one over when requested.

    They lie!

I think I am overcharged on more visits to Asda than not - speaking to others, you realise just how commonplace it is. I adopt the silent routine when at CS now, waiting to see if the giftcard is proffered - usually it isnt. I have had conversations with our local CS manager in the past, spoken to people at Head Office about it, there is no consistency in the application of the policy.

Everytime a misprice occurrs, a record should be made in the duty book and a gift card given. Just watch and see how often it actually happens this way.

Best thing you can do is to persist - and spread the word!

No it's not per item, but per "wrongness" if you see what I mean??

Eg, I went in and bought 9 packs of mentos which were supposed to be on 3 for £1 and 6 packs tic tacs which were also supposed to be 3 for £1. Neither deal worked and I was charged full price for them all. At CS, she refunded me the difference and gave me 2 £2 gift cards, one for spotting the tictac mistake and one for spotting the mentos mistake.

I do very well out of Asda because of this deal. I have NEVER done a shop where they have got everything right, so I always leave with at least one gift card, which is disgraceful really because it means loads of other people not checking their receipts are being diddled

I disagree and I'm not connected to ASDA in any way. I have very rarely had price mismatches against me, the few mismatches that I have had have been in MY favour. Compared with the other Mr BIG (T) in the grocery trade I think ASDA knocks them for six. MySuperMarket trolley is ALWAYS significantly cheaper in ASDA and the staff do "give a damn" unlike the other Mr BIG (T). If I do go to CS with a mismatch they have always offered the £2. They deserve more custom.

I agree, always have to ask and get a huffy response as they get the card ready.
