Good post/rant Shrimpy :) I'm also feeling oddly emotional about it all depsite being so far away. More or less given up on trying to concentrate on work now, what's annoying me is that everyone's carrying on as normal, no-one's talking about it! IT stops for no man!

On a happier note, my brother's wedding invitations have gone out and I just got a text off SIL2B saying how much everyone loves them and how shocked they are when she tells them they were made by little ol' me! *pats self on back* :)

ETA: Yay for the new washer Wendz! If it's sad to get excited about appliances them we all must be saddos!

Hope your OH is going to be OK at work and that he doesn't have to stay out all night!

I know what you mean about thinking in circles Shrimpy, it's hard to get your head around. Loving the pics of the Riot Wombles brandishing their sweeping brushes :) Your poor OH Wendz, thoughts are with you :(

Simon's cat is brilliant, everything from the way he first notices the box and sort of ambles over to have a look, to the way he'll stop playing and wash his face, pretending not to be interested. Cats make me laugh so much.

Do you have a pic of the invites Birdie? Nice to be complemented, especially when people won't believe you made them - I had that with my mince pies a couple of Christmases ago!

Just been to post my ebay bits, REALLY underestimated cost of postage but didn't want to downgrade from 1st class recorded as that was what I put in the listing and don't want to risk bad feedback. Gah. Oh well still made about £35 all in all to go to the challenge. Also resisted a sparkly top in Miss Selfridge - it just seemed such a bargain for £5 considering the amount of sequins on it!

I haven't got photos of the invites yet, I suppose I'll have to wait for mine to arrive to photograph it! ;) I don't think I could do it properly as a business, I was seeing snowflakes for days and I only made 35 invites! I'd go doolally if I was doing that all the time! :rotfl:

I always underestimate the cost of postage, it's the pits isn't it?!

ETA: Just remembered one of my feedback comments 'Very reasonable postage cost'...yeah because I'm stupid and undercharged you by £2!!! ;)

Happy new washer Wendz! Hope things calm down for your OH tonight.

I second the request for a peek at your invites Birdie if you have any? I love looking at things other people have made, it always makes me want to get creative myself! (Sadly unskilled but very enthusiastic!)

Well done on resisting the sequins too Tete! Pretty but scratchy! My friend wore a sequinned dress for her birthday a few years ago and at the end of the night her underarms (inner upper arms? Whatever you call that particular part of you!) were in bits! Postage is so expensive these days, especially when you get the post office lady who doesn't try to squeeze things though the postage slot things but just assumes they won't fit and charges you extra - my fault for being too meek I suppose!

ETA - Crossed posts Birdie! I got one recently saying 'postage too high' when it actually cost more than I charged, I don't think people realise how expensive stuff can be to send!

YES! That's so annoying when they sort of lightly drop it into the hole and it won't go through, even though it's only a skirt and will easily squash down  especially as you know for a fact the postman will just shove it through anyway, even if it were twice the size! And those hole template things are way smaller than any letterbox I've ever seen!

Good point about the scratchiness of the sequins, hadn't thought of that! £5 well saved :D

I have been known to sit on 'squishy' parcels for a bit before going to the post office to try to flatten all the air out!

I feel your ebay postage pain, Tete! The exact same thing happened to me today - I did downgrade one of them to 2nd class recorded, eek! Hope it doesn't cost me feedback, only saved about 50p :(

Birdie, can't wait to see your invitations!

I have a bit of a wedding/stationery dilemma. So, a friend of mine is letter pressing my stationery - I'm paying, but she's being super generous. I chatted to her about my save the date bookmarks and she was going to show me a proof, but she went away for August so - as a favour to me - she wanted to get them done before she went (though I said September was fine) and just printed all of them!

...and I like them, but they're not exactly how I imagined, which I'd have been able to change if I'd seen the proof. She did say that if I wasn't happy she'd redo them when she'd back from hols, but that just seems mean! Though the time-consuming part (making a lino cut, which is my FB profile photo :o) is done so should be pretty easy. I could offer to pay for the card so it's a compromise?

What do you girls reckon? Is this the peril of mixing business with friends? Or am I just being a bridezilla? Please say no :p

Ah, some petty stationery-related drama has taken my mind off the riots for a bit. I just don't know how they're going to get it under control. Putting more police on the streets and cancelling tomorrow's football matches seems quite defeatist - like they just expect it to continue. I don't know. I hope your OH doesn't have to get too involved Wendz :)

Poddle I think if you're not really happy with them you should tell her, I'm sure she'll understand! I'd offer to pay for the extra card if it'll put her out of pocket. Actually you say you're paying her, so you should definitely speak up if you're not happy! But like I say I'm sure she'll be ok! Love the pic too and glad Jasper is getting involved in proceedings :)

    Good tip Shrimpy ;)

Oh no your poor friend Wendz, must be awful to think *whatever*'s going on outside your front door and you can't even be there to defend your home :(
