It's really terrifying how senseless it is. I'm with Birdie, I can't ever see a situation where I'd think that looting was a good idea. As one of my friends on FB joked 'Yeah sure, I'd love to ransack Topshop, but I'm an upstanding citizen'...
Lara, hope all is okay in your neighbourhood. I have to agree - they can barely control the situation let alone address all the issues leading to it. But we're supposed to be grateful that DC is cutting short his holidays to come and deal with it. I do feel for the police though (glad your boys are home safe Wendz and Flower). Apparently they've arrested so many people in London, they're keeping people in custody in Brighton, as well as drafting in Sussex and Surrey Police to help.
Birdie, that's outrageous! I'm so glad I don't have to fill in a timesheetLBM Sep 2008 debt: £27,927.04start weight: 140.2, week 2: 1380 -
It is outrageous, fancy them wanting you to account for your time like that! Hope my work don't click on...
Have you seen the vid of the bloke stealing from the injured man's rucksack whist pretending to sort of comfort him, as he has blood pouring from his mouth? Just unbelievable - looting from a shop is one thing (and bad enough) but to steal from an innocent person in the street is just another level of, I don't know, heartlessness. People seem to have just gone feral and no one can do anything about itWeightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
I am worried about him but not much you can do. Poppy gave him a massive smile when he came home so i am sure that made him feel better!
Ahh bless, bet that cheered him upglad he is home safe and sound though.
I have been glued to BBC News - have been trying to see whats going on in Birmingham, but apparently its flared up in various other cities as well now.
Saw on the news lastnight that a woman in Birmingham was out shopping with her 8 month old baby and couldnt get back to her car parked at the Bullring because no one was allowed in the Bullring - poor woman was terrified.
Have told OH in no circumstances is he to go to Birmingham. He is a trained security guard, not trained to deal with riots! They may not want him out with the thugs but god forbid they got into the shopping centre any security guard would be completely out of their depth!
I really feel for the police, so restricted in what they can actually do.Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -

Saw that video, makes me ashamed to call myself British to be honest.Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
I can't see the video, but I don't think I want to
I read that they've started to break into people's homes, an old lady woke up to find a young guy in her house stealing from her!
There was even a 'pocket' of violence in Leeds last night. What the hell is happening?!

That Karl chap has a good point. But at the same time, considering most of them are young teens or kids if something was to happen like the army coming in or just water cannons I think they'd run. They're only doing this to such extremes because they're not getting hurt, getting caught. It's like with kids around here when they get too brash, stand up to them and they run off.
I saw that video earlier Tete - I've also seen that they're actually stripping members of the public for their clothes. I can't even focus on my work today. It's annoying me all this is happening in my own country and I can't do anything to help.
There's a photo of a kid on a push bike with a basket filled with cadbury buttons and fizzy drinks on Daily Mail. I had a little giggle at first because it was just a cute thing. A kid spending all his pocket money on sweets, then my head clicked that no - he'd looted the lot. He couldn't have been more than 11? 12, maybe.
That's horrible about the woman and her baby, Flower. You did the right thing telling your OH flat out no, although I doubt he'd have gone anyways? Didn't it start flaring up again yesterday afternoon? I'm kind of dreading watching the news then, but I then I can't not watch.
I hope you're okay tonight Lara, and all our other London based girls! Your OH too of course Wendz. Stay safe!
ETA: On the moooney side. Just had a call from my Mum to say there's a cheque for £17.02 at her house from Orange. So I think I'll use that to buy myself Zumba for the Wii! Fitness and all that!0 -
I saw that video of the man getting stolen from his backpack, is so horrible!
Birdie - we have a system like that at work but not as detailed thankfully, you just have to put what client you are working on and how many hours. Thankfully i worked on one client so easy for me!
Hopefully it will all be sorted by the weekend.0 -
I'd heard that about Leeds, and Liverpool too. Doesn't seem to have made it any further North than that thank goodness.
I know what you mean Cinny, I can't concentrate on work - got BBC news on in the background - Cameron's going to make a statement in five minutes or so I think. Uni friend on FB says all the cars in her street were smashed up this morning, can't believe how widespread it is. That is so awful about the old lady in her house - there's a massive line between looting from businesses and stealing from individuals, and anther line again between that and breaking into someone's home
Oh look they've destroyed a Sony factory - so presumably Sony will now take their business -and jobs- elsewhere, great work!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

No he wouldnt of I dont think. The only thing that tempted him was the double pay, but to be honest I think its only going to be a matter of time before they need to replace the security in the Bullring with police. Its good that security can try to help, but its a job for those trained to deal with riots etc...Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0 -
Just seen that all police leave has been cancelled. So not only are the police putting themselves in a dangerous situation, but those who have booked time off to spend with family and friends have to put those plans on hold as well - its actually making me quite angry!
I agree Cinny and Tete, cant really concentrate on much else today!Biggest Loser Weight Loss: 13 / 20 lb0
