It is a good job they have changed the parental rights thing, they just have to go when baby is registered. I must admit it is confusing that Poppy has a different sirname to me although most places are used to that now. Hopefully one day i will have the same sirname anyway! Her red health book has my sirname on it as in the hospital the baby has mums sirname but i registered her at the doctors with OHs sirname.

There is a man in our hallway fixing the ceiling where there was a leak upstairs so not really doing much today. Might venture out when he eventually goes.

For me the marriage was the legal stuff and the ingrained belief that we 'should' be married especially as we want children but if it's not for you then that's fine! We went to a friend's wedding night do on Saturday night and they'd had a small wedding in the registry office, back to the rugby club for a sit down meal of fish and chips (!!!) then a party in the evening. Whole thing probably cost them about £1000 but it was great, they just wanted to get married without the fuss and the massive cost. Of course the girl who got married in the Cathedral last month was looking down her nose at everything and was desperately trying to include me in a b1tchy conversation about the fact that the bride had sunflowers as her bouquet but I was having none of it, mainly because I really liked all of the quirky little touches but also at end of the day this couple were really happy and they're just as married as the couple whose parents spent thousands on one (pretty blinkin' dull) day.

I'm another for whom the guilt kicks in on an afternoon. I like to have a coffee and catch up in the morning (whilst I wake up!) and I do pop in over the course of the afternoon depending on workload but I do usually find that it's suddenly 2.30 and I have to have a whole day's work finished by 4.30 so I must actually get cracking! Bit peeved today though as I'm getting too much work and not enough time to do it in... so I'm just avoiding it and hoping it'll go away! :)

You remember my friend and the dirty dog ex she's carrying on with? I just asked if she could come round one night for tea since I've not seen her in ages (last couple of times she was meant to see us she cancelled for one reason or another, basically because she's been going round to his instead!) and she's 'too busy' this week so sent her a not too subtle reply saying, 'Well if you do happen to be in town for whatever reason please drop by as I've forgotten what you look like!' Hoping she'll cotton on that I know exactly what she's too busy with!

As for the marriage question - I wouldn't wait as long again before demanding a ring - I would want some security in my next relationship. Being a laidback easygoing girlfriend gets you nowhere.

I've always made a point to speak about it within the first few months, just to see that we both want to go in the same direction. After that at about 2 years I start questioning if this is the person for the rest of my life, in one case when he pointed out an engagement ring in a shop window I just had this flash of clarity and realised I needed to get out. Are you thinking about dating again soon?

Thinking about it but my heart's not really in it :o Sometimes you just need to jump in though don't you?

It's silly really because being married doesn't make you immune to affairs/mid-life crises/just falling out of love ... I didn't bring up marriage in the first few months because I wasn't thinking about it myself then. And because we were always talking about our future together I kind of thought we had one.

Birdie, seeing as that girl's parents paid for her 'amazing' wedding do I don't think she has any right to btch about anyone else's! Wish I was brave enough to say something like that to my friend! NIM is rubbing off on you obviously!

Right back to work - having the guilts!

Totally agree that it's important to make sure that you're both on the same page re: marriage! And kids! OH's friend who is engaged hasn't even had a proper kids talk with his fiancee, I asked her about babies last time I saw her and she says absolutely not, never ever... he wants 2 boys!

I do think I'm getting more like NIM, clearly I have less patience with people as I get older! Although what's his excuse as he's younger than me?! ;)

Just had a really random text from SIL asking me to buy her Fizzing Whizbees from Honeydukes in Harry Potter World! At least that'll cost less than the Nimbus 2000 that OH really wants (why?!?!), a snip at $250! When I told him he said, 'Oooh that's not as much as I thought it would be!' I have a feeling I'll be dealing with a tantrum in the shop when I tell him we can't buy a broomstick! :rotfl:

Does he realise it won't actually fly?

If you're not ready then don't push it hon, you'll know when you're ready to date again. I guess the first time you see a guy and wonder what it would be like to be with him as a couple rather than just thinking 'oooh he's hot' or just thinking of him in dirty, uncompromising positions, thats the time to push through the fear and try dating again.

Eeek to your friend Birdie - I can't imagine feeling ready to commit to someone if I don't know them well enough to know what they want out of life. I guess maybe sometimes you think you can tell if a person is a family type or not, oryou hope they'll change. I knew straight away NIM was a family type, but then again aftera while you should know anyway as there is always the 'when I have kids' sentences.

On that note, my grandad was so sweet last night, said he has a tin of cars ready to give his great-grandchild, but he doesn't think he'll be around to do it himself. Made me really sad but touched at the same time.

Buy him a regular broom and tell him when he's learned to ride it properly he can have a fancy one, why doesnt he want a firebold though?

I think the clue was in the fact that I'd told you I wanted to settle down before we met :D
This was 6 months out of date so I've changed it.

Because I haven't told him you can get a Firebolt... that's $300! He also wants a wand, which is another $40... can see our trip to HP World being very pricey indeed! :p We may have to have the conversation that it's not actually real... but I haven't got the heart!

That's really sweet of your Granddad Dinah :)
