Haven't you got one?
Well it is a little smelly in here, but that could be my colleague who has a houmous addiction0 -
It is lovely, the hallway & staircase are fab.....but you would need plenty of cash in reserve to do it up. If you need to stretch yourselves to buy it in the first place then how would you afford the renovations.0

run.......the roof and chimney breasts.. and as for the ivy, well the damage it does is amazing.....windows? whats the white stuff running down the roof and why is it there..
and your neighbours can not afford to replace the broken windows.....beware
That's not ivy. It could be wisteria or something. Agreed ivy is not a good thing to grow up a house though!DizzyDasher wrote: »Also looks like you have a commercial property next to yours (the van with the bins lined up behind it) - and their garage is right next to your living room?
What kind of business is it? White vans could mean clanking doors and engines starting at 6am, all kinds of equipment/rubbish piled in the front garden, whatever.
Do love the original features and the size - but I would think hard if I were you (and definitely give a hard think to the potential structural issues that the previous poster mentioned: how are the various bay windows on the street doing? Signs of cracks on yours or neighbours? Bays have a nasty habit of pulling away from the rest of the house if they're not tied in properly...)
If you read the rightmove description, you'll find the garage belongs to the house the OP is considering buying, so that and the van will not be a problem.
Agreed careful thought needs to be given to the structural/maintenance questions though. That's a beautiful house and I'd buy it in a second if I could get it for the same price in the area I'm looking at, but it's not one to spend every last penny of your budget to buy -- it could be a total money pit, and could take years to get "just right".
Only go for it if either (a) you've totally fallen in love with the house and want to live there forever, or (b) the house is very significantly cheaper than others on the street which are in better condition.0 -
Forget it because...
You're stretching yourself in a time of economic recession, lack of job security, house prices may still fall lower etc.
Have you worked out exactly HOW MUCH it will cost in water rates, council tax and insurance? And heating - in the winter old houses can take hours just to heat up and if you leave them unheated, damp and mildew can take hold. Also they can actually be colder than being outside!
BUT...it's gorgeous! You might be able to afford to do it up room by room. If it's going to be your "forever" home, in 20 years an extra £5-10k on your mortgage will seem like pennies well spent.
In balance, you have to give it a punt."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0 -
The only negative I can see from those particulars is the north facing garden."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

That road has the worst crime rate in the city.
It's also used as the local cruising site for the cities petrol heads.
10 nightclubs within 100 yds.
Road used by 10,000 Hull City supporters to park every 2 weeks.
Was badly affected by flooding in 2007
Does that help?
the above is unlikely to be true!!0 -

Wow, I know it is cheap up north, but not that cheap
Looks very nice0
