    Just a thought but do you have an old neighbour who would appreciate it if you are not going to use it all? I know my dad really appreciates a jar, when I make some, as bought is just not the same.

    Using leftover jam should have plenty of ideas. I would make jam tarts! It should keep well.

  • This might not be the answer you were looking for, but perhaps thinking outside the box is the way to go. Do you have any birthday presents coming up? You could make that person a cake and fill it with jam. For Mothers Day I'm making my mum a breakfast in bed hamper - a basket with tea, coffee, jam, marmalade, posh cups, tea tray, book or magazine etc in. That would be an ideal way of "using up" your jam.

    Well I was engaged. Until we separated on 8th March :( Here's hoping that having a break will help us solve all our problems. Until then I'm a single mum on a tight budget :(

    Jam can also make a lovely sauce for icecream or chocolate cake -
    heres how I make sauce for the kids
    a small jar of jam (that will serve 4 greedy kids or two greedy adults!)
    abut half the quantity of fruit juice (match the juice to the colour of the jam - but if in doubt use apple or orange)
    and if you have some, a little grated peel of a lemon, lime or orange.
    just warm it up until the jam and juice is mixed well together and either serve it warm or chill.

    grown ups version
    a large jar of jam (serves 4)
    a good few tablespoons of a good liquer like cointruea or framboise or any fruity liquer
    some grated lemon, lime or orange rind
    same as before - warm untill well mixed and either serve hot or chill until needed.

    a previous poster mention putting jam in a muffin mix before cooking - well try this, its called jam doughnut muffins and you do a plain muffin mix with plenty of vanilla extract. put the jam in the middle of the muffins bake them and before they are cold, melt some butter, and get a plate of caster sugar ready, dip the muffins in the butter and then in the sugar. then eat.............they are gorgeous!!!! my grandkids made these the other week and they were a great success!
  • As well as the spoon full of jam on porridge and rice pudding that someone else has already mentioned, ive also been known to use it up in some recipes such as bottom of the cupboard bars (rice crispy cakes/refidgerator bars etc) where im short of say butter or syrup i substitue with the jam to make up the wet weight.

    Otherwise lots of jams can be used to glaze pork plum or apricot i found works well. Other than that i'd personally say jam tarts are quick and easy and would use it up.

    Jam and peanut butter sandwiches have to be my all time fav and are very nice done in a sandwich toaster and served hot with ice cream! Chocolate spread & strawberry jam also works ;)

    Any smooth jam or jelly goes well in gravy or other savoury sauces where you want a hint of sweetness and flavour. I often use gooseberry or blackberry jelly in my gravy as they aren't too sweet and have a lot of flavour. Don't use too much though as it can be a little overpowering!

    As well as in the base of a bakewell tart (which uses up a fair old bit) I saw Jamie Oliver make some little pear meringues on his 30 min show.
    He just used an individual pastry case,added a tblspoon of jam to each case plus a few sliced tinned pears then topped with meringue mix and baked it looked lush!
