I'm not living in dreamworld. I have an (almost) perfect px60 that I'm watching now. The fact that you are reading AV forums where people go to discuss problems with AV equipment that they have bought kind of gives a skew on the scale of the problem. I've not read the thread on AV forums for a few days, so more people could have posted faulty televisions. 100 was a round about number (it was actually less) of seperate posters that had the purple snakes problem. There were also just as many people posting saying "how do I find purple snakes - I can't see any" like it was a normal feature.
Sticking my neck out i would say that they have swapped a component or 2 on some of the the batches to cut costs, or have used a faulty batch of a paticular component. Either way I'm happy it's getting sorted as on the whole its a great TV.
On a seperate note, I do have a problem with mine. The AV4 input on the front of the tele only works when you press down on the video cable. I won't send this to get repaired until there is a fix for the purple snakes problem (just in case they swap the set over and I'm unlucky to get one with the purple snakes ;) ) - So it may be a good idea to test your AV4 input in case its a common problem.

Would agree with that John, I have read the AV forums too reg this issue. Always hard to evaluate the scale of a problem from forum posts alone, although I'm not denying there is an issue. But if you look at the numbers of people who have posted saying they have experienced no problem and then look to see if they have re-posted with a problem it is a very, very small number.

Have you tried more than one lead in AV4? It could be the lead.

Yes. It was the first thing I did. It seems like there is a dry solder joint on the board and pushing against it completes the circuit.
I rarely use the AV4 so it's not a huge problem, but annoying when I've got the digital camera connected through it.

  • Well i've gone and bought the 42" plasma and will see how the purple snakes things goes .
Went to pick it up at empire direct merry hill dudley and currys had the one i was going to buy for £829 so got it from currys. Exact same model with the panasonic stand apparently as the two are beside each other they are quite competive. First time i've seen such a difference between web and high street. :T

On another point can someone past the link to the av forum. Going shortsighted in my old age and cant find it!

OK maybe only 100 or so people have posted over on avf about the problem but I've read at least two posts from people who have had there set replaced only to find the same problem. When you think how many units must have been shifted since the release of these models don't you think it's more than unlikely your gonna find anyone that's had two faulty ones if there's only 100 or so dodgy ones out there? I also very much doubt Panasonic in Japan would have spent time looking into a fix for the problem unless it was more widespread. I hope you're right though as mine arrives Tuesday!

    How much for?
  • Having got a `bee-in-my-bonnet` about the Hitachi 42" panel for £699 from Richer Sounds - had a good look at one - in my opinion 'not bad' then let the 'better-half' have a look - she did not like the panel but she spotted the Samsung for 1499.99 running on a 'blue-ray' player - gorgeous picture but with warranty = £1700 (just for the panel) - haha! So I did some serious 'homework' looked at a LG panel at Currys for £999 telephoned the wife who looked on-line at Currys website on to see that the price was £899 - mentioned this to the sales assistant who instantly said 'we`ll match that!` Anyway checked out on-line reviews and was informed that the TH42PX60B was the better. So then I did some scouring of the internet as Currys price was £899 with pedestal - got the price down to £807 no discount codes quidco etc but the delivery was 79.99 (from Bradford)!! John Lewis - in writing - said they will match 'empire direct' with the TV stand for £999.99 which is £50 cheaper than Currys. Then I rang Currys direct and proved to the CA that I could purchase the Panny for £849 from 'Empire-Direct' CA agreed the price but could not sell me one as they where all SOLD-OUT but to go back to the shop and ask the MANAGER, that having previously been told by a sales assistant that Currys would not match 'Empire Direct' as they are not a 'bricks and mortar company' - complete bull !!!!!! as they have a store in DERBY and Currys are practically next door. Then the Currys assistant suddenly remembered that Oh Yeah - they do have a shop - don`t they! but was told that the best price they could do was £869.00. I was now over a barrel because I had 'a man and a van' on route as I was speaking to the sales assistant so I ended up purchasing one! Now having spent time 'tweaking the panel' all I can say is - 'if you got the pennies - buy-one' I have never seen a more awesome jaw dropping picture ever' I have looked for 'purple snakes' and I can not see this - looked at Star Wars I and the space scenes look 'deep' - Judge Dredd - awesome - cant wait to rewatch all my DVD`s again - with a passion!
