Currys Panasonic TH42PX60B 42" High Definition TV £899

Options
I've had one 6 months. Lets say mine cost several hundred more. If you have a HD source the picture is obviously fantastic (xbox 360 looks great!) Normal digital ain't bad either. Sound quality and build quality are both excellent. If you're in the market for a plasma and want something that's less than a grand I don't think you will go far wrong. Seems a great price.

    Thats a good price for a 42"
BUT reviews say this samsung is better even though its only 40" and is £70 more! you do get more bang for buck!!!

Its here for £971 BUT ebuyer is doing it for only £899 on Thursdsy, they will get more stock in and if you use free postage is all good!

    a steal.

shame it's not 'real' HD though. 1024x720 isn't good enough for some (needs to be at least 1280 wide) but still a good deal.
HD is determined by vertical pixels not horizontal. This TV does have 'real' HD but not true HD. You need a panel that can display 1080 horizontal for the full effect. However, 1080 TV's are few and far between and very expensive.

I have this TV, and like the OP, paid considerably more for it only a few months ago (but got a 5yr g'tee).

It has a 1080i screen, which is great. 1080p is the dog's danglies, but as mentioned before, they are hideously expensive!!

Had a look at the Samsung as well, and for me, the Panny is a better screen, and if you check out the likes of AV Forums, you will see that the majority of the people there praise the Panny PX60.

This appears a great price, and if there are any further reductions from any vouchers, and you are in the market for a large screen, then for 'bangs per bucks' you are not gonna get much better

This is a good deal - these plasmas are a cut above the cheapies, having much better electronics and hence a better picture. Pity the 50" isn't similarly reduced!

Don't forget that codes aren't allowed on Grabbit!

That code works on lots of stuff, but be aware that they might not honour it as it's supposed to be for MP3 players!

If you look now a lot of people aren't actually praising it anymore , they are actually having tremendous problems with this set . Do a search for " Purple Snakes " on the forum & read very carefully .

Hmm - clever longman, but you're still posting codes on the Board regardless, sorry!

Yes, I've read about the purple snakes, but it's difficult to ascertain if this problem affects a large proportion of them. Perhaps it does, and this is why the price is plummeting?

  • Its early days over the purple snakes issue as Panasonic won't say its a fault although apparently it is becoming an issue at Panasonic R&D into what is causing it . reports are coming in over new models , replacement models & even less than 12 month old ones being affected now . I'm not trying to put anyone off as it is a tremendous price , just watch out for them within 28 days , if you see them get it sent back or refunded .
