No - Empire Direct don't have a free 5 year warranty. They did until 24th December. Looks like you picked up some execess free capital letters with your TV too though. :-)0 -

Better still, get John Lewis to PM it, (they do match ED as long as it is in stock) and you get their 5yr g'tee as well!
Purple Snakes .... 5yrs to worry about them .....
Certainly spending this amount of money I would want to see it in the "flesh" as it were. So perhaps look in the local Currys and then try and get a PM or order online. Never had a problem with "purple snakes" mentioned.0 -

I sent mine back because of the purple artefacts but the replacement was just the same. I think the vast majority of sets are affected but whether a casual viewer would notice if they didn't know about it is another thing. I know about it and can occasionally see them in normal viewing (they were in the Doctor Who Confidential today). The problem is that if this sort of thing worries you (and it can be annoying) we don't really know where Panasonic stand on this feature. Panasonic certainly know about it and are appraently investigating... If it wasn't for the snakes this is probably the best TV for this sort of money. Even with this issue it is still a very good buy.
I've also got this TV. I have tried best I can to replicate the "purple snakes" and I cannot, and no-one else can see it either on my TV. My sister also has this TV and it also has not got a problem. If you actually read the 68 pages on AV forums (I have) There appears to be less than 100 people with a problem in the whole world? I really do sympathise with all those people as I've seen the pictures of faulty ones and I for one wouldn't stand for it. So saying that the vast majority of sets are affected seems to be totally over the top.
I also have to say that the picture quality of the PX60 is fantastic. I've yet to go to someones house and find a better picture.

I also have this tv, it's bloody brilliant with all sources!
A mate of mine bought one a few days before xmas for his mum and he ordered one himself today from Currys using the mp3 code.
No snake stuff on mine or his mums, well not so far anyway.
@trl002. That Samsung is an LCD, the Panny is plasma, there's no contest between the two, the Plasma wins hands down over any LCD on the market. In fact plasmas produce a far better picture compared to LCD overall.
EDIT: If you do get one, have a good read of the running in thread on av forums. I checked how many hours mine has been on since I got it a few minutes ago via the service menu. It's been used for 219 hours so I upped the brightness and contrast a bit and it now looks even better!!0 -
Sorry folks. I admit to a typing mistake. Huge apologies. At least I think that post was factually correct and hopefully helpful. I know I am a bit old fashioned but I do find it a bit tiresome sometimes reading sentences without full stops and commas or with every word starting with a capital or in text speak.
That aside, I don't believe there are only 100 people in the world who have the purple snake issue. If this was true then I must be the unluckiest bloke in the world having had 2 (with serial numbers in nowhere near the same range) and both having the same issue. However, there could well be 100 people who have noticed it and registered the fact on AV Forums.
I do think the picture quality is fantastic... when there are no snakes. I don't think many people would notice them unless pointed out. For under £1000 I don't think there is much to beat this set at 42".0
