her husband is there, this is what i dont understand, he works away during the week and comes home at weekends

It probably does his head in as well!

OP I'd be more concerned about your OH than his mother, I can half understand her 'mothering' him (although it is too much) but you'd think he wouldn't want to be with mummy all the time!

All I can say is...don't marry him!

So working people don't have dogs??

If they can't arrange for the dog not to be cooped up on its own without being able to relieve itself nor benefit from any interaction for hours on end, then no, they shouldn't have a dog. It's quite basic really!

They do, but that's because they're selfish and care more about their own pleasure than the poor creature they pretend to love.

My dog was left alone for 12 hours a day from puppyhood and the two fools who owned him finally handed him into a dog rescue as he was "bonkers" (their words)when they came home from work at 8pm.

BTW, pigpen if your dog has fleas, ticks and worms he is not being cared for appropriately. Frontline and Drontal will take care of these issues, with the occasional use of a tick puller for emergencies.

Some really ignorant comments on this thread. Definitely "pet owners" rather than dog lovers.
Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.

Let's hope she doesn't send champagne to the wrong hotel too!

On the topic of putting out...maybe only at the weekends for a while - reward the desired behaviour et.c?!

Yes, you must be so tired during the week ... much nicer to save it for the weekend :D

It doesn't have to be 'cooped up', I leave the back door open most of the time and I have a big back garden, he likes to spend time outside, he can also 'relieve himself'. When we're home he still likes to go in the garden a lot anyway.

    Selfish?? :rotfl:What by working??

Who do you think pays for the dog food? Vet bills? Worming tablets? Flea drops? Treats? Toys?

Is it better to not work, claim Income Support to afford the upkeep and receive a reduction on vet bills?

Sorry, I just had to quote this part again as it's humoured me, 'their own pleasure' going to work.

I'm guessing you have a dog? How do you do anything in your life? Really, I'm curious. How do you go shopping? Do you never socialise in any way? Do you never go to the cinema? Buy clothes? Go on holiday?

i thought of that too!!! its his birthday in september so i have told him i am taking him for a surprise!! she took me aside and asked where and i told her a hotel i'd stayed at before in Egypt!!! hahaha i hope she turns up there!

The mischief making side of me wants to urge you to cancel your planned holiday at the very last moment just for the pleasure of discovering that your M-i-L has hot-footed it to Egypt to 'surprise' you!

At least that way you'd be guaranteed a couple of days peace alone with your chap, wouldn't you?! :D

Another alternative is to insist on going with him when he stays at mummy's for the weekend and insist on sharing your OH's bed whilst there and (if needed) make loud pretend sex noises. :rotfl:
