Is there something going on that you don't know about? The only plausible reason for him leaving you and going to mummy all weekend, and for her crying when he says he might stop, is that she doesn't want to be alone with her husband. Does he hit her?

I'm one of those saddos whose lives revolves around her dogs (no they don't come to bed with us) but leaving them for 12 hours a day is disgusting and you shouldnt have them if you are not going to give the poor things a walk. Dogs are social animals and I can't think of anything worse than being cooped up on my own all day. I love them so much that when we go on holiday in September we're driving 300 miles to my old dog sitter in LIverpool so she can watch them:D

Anyway back to the original thread, OP, have you spoken to your OH yet? I really think you need to put your foot down on this! x

Does she live within walking distance? Maybe when your partner gets home he could offer to walk her home and give the dog a walk at the same time? (I also like the idea of him dropping the dog to her house every morning too.)

The weekend sleepovers are just plain freaky but you didn't answer the question about whether he takes himself off there first thing Saturday morning and stays for the whole weekend or goes out with his dad for a few pints and gets too trollied to drive home? You definitely need to start making plans for your weekends, tell them you're staying with friends for the Saturday night and can you pop round for lunch on the Sunday. While you're there say how nice it is to be able to all sit down together for a chat instead of chatting over doing the chores and how you should make it a regular thing and next time they're invited to yours then say 'we can't do it next week because we're doing x/y/z but how about the week after?'.

You really do need to get it sorted before even considering having kids because she'd be a nightmare.

What job takes a couple of hours? I leave my dog to go shopping, have my hair cut etc but that is probably for a maximum of 3 or 4 hours. If I go to the cinema, theatre etc I get a dog sitter.

I work one day a week for 5 hours and have a dog walker. I am a responsible owner who cares about the welfare of my dog. Holidays he comes with us or goes to a dog sitter - simples!

It said a few hours not a couple.

No I do not get a dog sitter if I go to the cinema or theatre, although strangely enough this usually would only take a couple of hours not a few, but you don't get a dog sitter for the 3 or 4 hours?

Does the dog walker stay for 5 hours? Perhaps you've given me an idea then, I will see if we have a local dog walker that will work 5 hours for free.

We really need a dedicated part of the board to discuss pet care.

Yeah, this thread is really not what i intended now its turned into a discussion about dog care! for everyones info i work 12-6 and OH works 8-4 so the dog has 4 hours in which MIL comes round to take him out.
Anyway back to the original reason for this thread...
He leaves me on the Friday night and comes back on the sunday night, i go out with friends etc and sometimes if there is overtime i work the weekends, he has said the weekends will stop we have planned to go out this Friday so he wont be staying that night.

Good, I hope you get it sorted. I would seriously make it clear now what you will and won't put up with otherwise you could end up marrying him and then regretting it.

(I think I just made the assumption you'd be getting married at some point, maybe you won't!)

Enjoy Friday then, at least you've made some progress.
