He probably just felt a bit queasy after the anaesthetic and during the afternoon he started to perk up as it wore off.

You'd give them a slice of your liver lightly sauteed when they're like that, wouldn't you?

When my poor old dog refused to eat I was so stressed...tried absolutely everything - I even part-chewed pieces of mini mars bars for him and shoved them through the gap in his teeth and held his mouth shut...how mad is that?

I was so desperate to get ANY nourishment into him, and was delighted when he did actually swallow the mars bars and licked his lips. I'd never be so stupid again though.

So Jack does seem to be on the mend if he fancied the turkey! Let's hope he has a restful night and feels a lot better in the morning.

Excellent! :D Typical little toad behaviour. Glad he's well enough to be able to chance his arm. (Or paw. ;))

Bless his wee scabby face. (said lovingly :)).

Little toad indeed! Mum in Law reckons he looks like a fox now lol. Very odd seeing a scabby scottie with no beard though.

He flatly refused to eat at the vets too, so he hadn't eaten since sunday afternoon and his Op was yesterday, so 24 hours after anaesthetic they had hoped he'd be eating more. I'm happy to give him whatever, I agree about the Mars bar lol, at one point I squirted Hoi Sin Sauce on the blooming eggy rice just to give it a taste but he turned his nose up at that too!

I'll give him a little more turkey in half an hour or so. I'm holding off his Tramadol until 10ish then I'll take him up to bed with me I think to keep a close eye on him. This invariably means no sleep as Bob will have to come to and he'll be snoring, stretching and scratching all night :o

I'll update in the morning :D

Ever feel like your being had? ;)

I've spent all afternoon on my hands and knees trying to spoon feed every variety of food known to man, we'd been told that unless he'd eaten by tomorrow lunch time he'd be back in. I've tried chicken, rice, peas, minted lamb caesar etc with no luck. I've been syringing in water and generally getting more and more worried.

Cue half an hour ago when OH walks in with 2 slices of Turkey. Jack wolfs it down without a second thought then gets up, goes out for a wee and a poo calling in to have a really long drink of his water on the way back. He then stretched and got back into bed!!!

I think I'm being taken for a mug lol

I really feel for you and Jack, as a dog lover I know how worrying it is when they are unwell. I'm pleased he is home safe and getting plenty of TLC.

I have just lost my King Charles only one week ago and your post brings back memories of her last day. She was a typical King Charles that would never refuse any food but that day she turned her nose up at everything I tried to feed her so I knew something was up. I even tried her with ham, mainly to get her tablets down but she refused that too. Yet she ate it when my OH offered her it, unfortunately it didn't stay down very long and we lost her that night.

Jack has probably lost his appetite and feeling unwell after his op but hopefully tomorrow will be a better day. Have you tried him on something light like scrambled egg or tuna? I was told by my vet to give both my dogs this after they went through an op. I hope he feels better soon x

If tramadol has done to Jack what it does to me, it is only bodily functions that'll get me out of bed, iyswim;).

I always feel a little high/woozy on it, so might it be worth timing his feed for an hour or so before he's due his next dose? So that the pain isn't so bad that he doesn't want to eat, but long enough that the wooziness has gone.

Glad he's back home with you, hope Bob's less grumpy too.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!

Hope you all have a restful night then. Give Jack a cuddle for me and let us know how he is in the morning

OP, hope you and Jack are getting a decent night's sleep.

Honey is very useful when the patient is reluctant to eat or drink, or is shocked (eg. after an accident or operation).

He had a very good night, I didn't sleep much though :o He was up a few times for a drink but didn't want a wee. In the end he really settled around 6am and slept soundly until 9am when I took him out and he did a big (normal coloured) wee.

He's just eaten some chicken and had all his pills and is nodding again, but happy to report tail wagging today! :D

Sorry if this is TMI but he's just had a normal poo which is normal coloured. This leads me to believe he still has a reasonable amount of liver function as otherwise it would be grey :)
