Oh no! That's not we wanted to hear. But it's no good speculating at this point, you'll know more with the biopsy result as you say.pulliptears wrote: »I have an update.
I took a call from our vet around 7pm. Jack has advanced liver disease. We don't know for sure why or how until the biopsy comes back. He won't get any better but depending on the causes he may not get worse. We may be able to hold on to him for a while with a special diet but we just don't know at this stage. To say I'm devastated is an understatement, we have loved this little man for almost 9 years and to lose him will be terrible.
I'll update when I know more.
Just hoping there will be a way to help him if the biopsy shows he won't get worse. There are so many things that can be done now, and he's only 8 after all.
Oh dear. I'm sending you my very best wishes that this will all work out somehow.0 -
So Sorry to hear about Jack.Hoping all works out soon.0

Hugs for you all, and an extra special one for Jack. Thinking of you xxxGood enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j
If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!0 -
Milk thistle seems to be a popular natural remedy for dogs with liver disease. Its very detoxifying.
All the best to poor Jack, dont want to imagine what a terrible time you are going through.0 -
Hi Pulliptears, I'm another dog-lover who's been following your journey with Jack. At least now you're getting some answers that will let you move forward.
Another vote for Milk Thistle here - amazing stuff that actually seems to help the liver repair itself (though my experience is more with humans).0 -
Any update this morning about Jack?0

Any update this morning about Jack?
No news yet, got to wait until after 10am when ward rounds are done and hopefully he'll be allowed home.
I've looked at milk thistle before actually but with his symptoms being obscure and changeable we didn't want to start him on it For fear of perhaps lowering the enzymes and giving false readings. Plan for today though is to go to the herbalist and get some. For those who use it, what dose do you give?
Bob had a quiet night which was unexpected. He's moping this morning still too but I think he'll be very relieved to have jack home.0 -

Milk Thistle has recently been 're-classified' which has led to some suppliers quadrupling the price. The best deal I found in the last month is with H&B. My son was born with a very faulty liver, he's been on the reserve transplant list all his life and has been taking Milk Thistle since birth (with the approval of his consultant who is always amazed that his liver-function tests are so much better than expected).
Ask the vet about dosage - mine is always very helpful when I've decided to add alternative therapies to her treatments (three of my four senior dogs are on glucosamine and fish oil, for example - to ward off arthritis. I always buy the pills designed for human use and the vet works out the correct dosage for each dog).0 -
Been thinking about you all night, hope you are holding up okay and crossed paws for Jack xxx0
