He's survived the Op and is in recovery. They have managed to get a biopsy and we are told it was 'routine'.

I'm hoping to speak to our Vet in a bit and find out more, but the mere fact he's survived it is a miracle. My little boy is fighting.
    ((hugs you all))
Well that's a bit of good news, he must be a strong little fella.

Praying he will come home and have much more quality time with his loving family.

You know, I just looked at when I started this thread and it was the 4th July, it seems an age ago and it has been as someone said a rollercoaster. I think when 95% of people head off to the vet with their pets they usually get a diagnosis fairly quickly, but with Jack having so many symptoms of so many ailments and contradicting most of veterinary science its been so many emotions from thinking he had controllable cushings to fatal heptacutaneous. I don't think OH and I have had a proper nights sleep since my first post, funny to think how the little fella controls our lives. I commented to OH the other day about how upset we were over Jack and god help how we'd cope if one of the kids became ill to which he rightly pointed out one of the kids could tell us where it hurt and when it hurt and we wouldn't feel so helpless.

Jack is being kept overnight, he's on a drip and groggy but (according to the receptionist who has come to love him to bits) he is responsive and happy, though he is still a very poorly little man. I'm pleased he is being kept in as the dangers from the anaesthetic with his liver not functioning properly and the anaemia would leave me worrying I think. He's in the best place and they can keep a good eye on him.

Someone commented about the vet feeling he had hope. We had a chat with her last week about it and we had told her that if she found something detrimental or felt that his quality of life would never return we trusted her judgement to let him go there and then. The fact that she has taken the biopsy and bought him round has also given us some hope.
Hopefully we will know more tomorrow now but I feel the long difficult path we have been on is now coming to an end.

If you trust the vet then you should definitely be hopeful...she wouldn't have brought him round if his chances were minimal. It is best that he stays in overnight, not least because any medical emergencies can be immediately dealt with.

Do you expect some kind of a result tomorrow, from the biopsy or anything else that may have become more evident when they operated? I hope you don't have to wait weeks while they analyse more bloods etc. because you must be worried to death about Jack.

Let's hope tomorrow is the beginning of Jack's recovery and he'll be bouncing around again very soon.

    Big hug for you!

That is the worst with animals, that you can't always tell where it hurts or if your hound is feeling blue or woozy or what:(. It's all a bit trial and error sometimes - and no illness is ever the same anyway.

It sounds as if you have a good relationship with your vet and that makes the situation easier. I've had some smashing vets and their advice has made difficult times less painful with sensible caring advice.

    Hope tomorrow brings good news.
  • All the VERY best for DEAR Jack.. the little fighter with the snuggable big bottie! Bless him, he's such a sweetie and it sounds like he has a really good mum in you there pulliptears.

Our animals do worry us soO much, please keep us updated on his progress, dear man.

I feel a lot more hopeful. I do trust her very much, and with the fact she has worked with referrals and seen the weird and wonderful like Heptacutaneous I know she'd have a good idea of what was going on.

I don't know what to expect tomorrow to be honest, I don't know if the biopsy results will be in or not but I would assume given just how sick he now is that will be speeded up. Hopefully will get to speak to our vet properly and she can tell us exactly what she's found.

I still don't think I'll sleep much tonight as Bob is now desperately missing Jack and I have a feeling he'll be doing some crying tonight :(

Poor little Bob, he must be bereft without his brother.

But hopefully you can soon enjoy the sight of them being reunited and having a good play together.

try to get some rest tonight and let's hope tomorrow is a better day.

    I have an update.

I took a call from our vet around 7pm. Jack has advanced liver disease. We don't know for sure why or how until the biopsy comes back. He won't get any better but depending on the causes he may not get worse. We may be able to hold on to him for a while with a special diet but we just don't know at this stage. To say I'm devastated is an understatement, we have loved this little man for almost 9 years and to lose him will be terrible.

I'll update when I know more.
