Poorly Jack-Liver Disease

That's one good thing about this forum, there's always people who are willing to share their experiences and support in your hour of need!pulliptears wrote: »They are so sore, I keep bathing (the chamomile has improved them quite a bit!) but I've been asking the vet for weeks for help with them. I appreciated she was trying to treat his condition as a whole but they did need controlling. He does look fed up on that pic, but he was waggy I promise, he loves peas from the pod so he was waiting for me to pick the next peapod for him to eat!
The thing around his neck is an inflatable buster collar to stop him nibbling at his front paws. Its much much comfier than the plastic ones and doesn't make his face sweat as much. He sometimes wears that but I also take it off and put him baby scratchmitts on for an hour to give him a break. He amazes me that he doesn't pull them off.
I'll keep updating because it's helpful to me as well to look back and see what he's had done and when etc. Also, its lovely having some support
I am genuinely concerned about little Jack though and send him - and you - my very best wishes that he will soon be back to his mischievous best and you can sleep at night again!:)0 -
Some reasonable news today, the bile stim tests are back and it appears Jack's liver is functioning normally. This means not only can he have the OP, but it may also mean that the problem doesn't necessarily lie in his liver and could be something as simple as a gall bladder. She seemed quite positive today about his condition which has left us daring to hope a little.
We are now waiting for a phone call as she is shuffling surgery times to try and get Jack in ASAP.0 -
That sounds promising. Liver problems can be a bit of a pain to sort,s o hope it is something straightforward for Jack and that the op goes well.
Tell him Ruby's seen his phot and she thinks he's a bit of a dish! Even with a rubber ring round his neck!;)0 -

Haha bless, Ruby better watch out when he's feeling better he can be a bit of a ladies dog
(well, as much as you can be without the necessary equipment). 0 -
Neither has she - I see it being platonic really:p
Have you got a date/time for the op yet?0 -

Well, vet is still juggling surgery times so it will be tomorrow now

Tonight has bought an interesting development. Jack's been a lot bouncier today, he scoffed a pigs ear this morning and has generally been a lot more responsive following me around like the old Jack did.
Tonight I decided to treat him to half a tin of wet food in with his Arden Grange biscuit. This is something he has occasionally. Well, I can't begin to tell you the mess on the kitchen floor. Bits of half chewed food were everywhere! I watched him eat a bit, chew it round then spit a large portion back out while pawing at his mouth. Confused with this OH gave him a handful of chips leftover from DD's lunch, he wolfed them down then started to paw at his mouth again. This time I grabbed him and opened his mouth to find all the food compacted and stuck to the roof of his mouth.
I'm very, very confused by this and will most certainly be discussing with the Vet tomorrow. I have him a handful of just his dry food which he managed better with, but was still slobbering. I'm going to check his mouth in a moment to make sure the pigs ear didn't perhaps cut him etc
**edited to add**
There is a small lump on the roof of his mouth behind his front teeth so for now Im going to assume he's perhaps caught it on the pigs ear and its a bit sore. Scrambled egg diet again tomorrow I think!0 -
How's Jack doing pullip?0

How's Jack doing pullip?
Scared to say, amazingly well. His OP is scheduled for a week on Monday but the antibiotics seem to have done something as I have my happy, waggy little dog back! His eyes are clearing up, he's following us round and he's wagging his tail!
The food issue hasn't reappeared so I'm assuming he'd hurt his chops on the pigs ear.
Can't believe it at the moment. Im daring to hope again.0
