Ah! Just the forum I need to ask!

I have loan including PPI for unemployment with Barlcays which I was forced to take out when I took out the loan (June 2008)

Last September I lodged a claim with a PPI Company to claim back the PPI and costs etc and this is still ongoing.

However, in March this year i was made redundant due to Mr Cameron's bright ideas, and had to claim on the insurance.

I contacted said PPI Company and explained the situ.

Question is (as I'm not sure PPI Company know!)

    1. Is my claim for PPI still valid as i've had to claim on the insurance, or does claiming on the PPI for unemployment invalidate any PPI Claim.

2 If YES to No 1, Barclays will give me a new figure. Can I then go elsewhere and take out PPI if I so wish incase of unemployment in the future (i've just been offered employment at NMW so should be alright for now so will need to start repaying again)

You will still be able to claim. If Barclays pay redress it will be minus any benefit you recieved whist you were unable to work due to redundancy.

Once settled you can arrange a standalone payment protection cover for redundancy or sickness, use one of the comparision web sites.

If seems having PPi on your loan for redundancy wasn't a bad idea considering your situation?

Your claim will still be dealt with if you win any money you claimed for on the ppi will be taken off your win though, sometimes this may be more than the actual ppi, especially has you only had this for 3 years. So you need to be careful as you may win but be left with nothing and the claims co will still want their %.

You can go elsewhere for ppi,the loan if you win will be reset without ppi so your monthly payment should come down by the ppi monthly amount.

Do you have arrears on this loan? if you do, then the win (if any)will go to the loan.

yes, I do have arrears, but that aint my fault, due to to unemployment (since March), so insurance have only covered 3 payments at most.

it was, yes, certainly, but it was still wrong for them to sell/put in it on my loan. Had they not, then I'd be in the !!!! now, and owning / needing to pay them more than I do atm.

You will get a decent payback then for mis sell, the 3 months you claimed on this is only 3 loan payments and that will be a lot less than the 3 years you paid the ppi,the arrears will be taken off your win though, but at least with the 3 years premiums you have paid and interest you should not be too badly off.

I understand from friends who work "Hazel Carr" (compliance outsource support) that Barclays are sending the letters in tranches depending on when your complaint was raised. My complaint was put on JR in October and I went straight to the ombudsman.

If Barclays are saying they will have all complaints paid by end of August, I would say everyone will have to recieve the initial letter by end of July. This will allow Barclays time to pay out by the end of August.

It might be worth leaving it another week and if you have not heard anything call Barclays again.

    Good luck

just called Barclays (aka UK Secured Lending) and was told to expect the offer letter by August 31 or a few days later :(. I filed my complaint on Feb 7 this year so I presume that I am somewhere in the middle of a huge pile of complaints that they have not done anything with except send out template letters on a scheduled basis to stall for time.

My secured loan was taken on September 11, 2006.

Hi there, they have been granted extra time by the FSA,for your claim august is the deadline, they should not go over this, they have to resolve your complaint by this date.
Think you will be sorted by then.

Thanks for all the replies on this thread, I checked my balance this morning and a credit of 168 is showing to clear on monday. I rang barclays and was told this was one of my PPI refunds. The calculations will be set out in a letter on its way.
This must have been done today as I checked my balance last night.
I have another claim awaiting which was logged at the same time, wonder when that one will be processed.

That's good news that you have got something. We are still waiting at the moment. It's been four weeks now since the first letter.
