Press the white tabs at the sides to remove. Just clean the contacts of the RAM module and make sure there is no dust in the slots.. :)

Did you check that everything else was well seated?

If the monitor was the problem, it wouldn't be likely that it would show 'no input signal'.

OK the monitor coulkd be tested using your lappy , disconnect the cable from the tower and plug it into your lappy , there should be a socket on the lappy for it, but shut the lappy down first just in case the monitor has the problem. Then power the lappy up and see if the monitor determines there is a signal, and you should have a function key on the lappy that looks similar to a picture of a desktop and a tv side by side.
No but the cable could be , or it may be loose, just excluding one possible problem , or it may be the gfx card ....

Sorry I assumed that this had been ruled out ;)

    That was your assumption.

I wrote only of the monitor.

Yep, your highlighting not mine, not my intention to make a point, my original post would have possibly ruled out monitor/cable/gfx card, no problems.

You are too sensitive. No one overruled your post. We work together here.

So I bought a card reader which now means that the files can be listened to on Windows 7 and Vista - thanks guys!!:T

The only problem is that neither system will recognise the Olympus RS24 footpedal. This is not essential but will speed up the transcription process considerably (dissertation is due in next Friday so any added efficiency would be great).

Does anyone have any ideas for how to do this? I looked on the link that was posted earlier that lists which Olympus products are compatible with Windows 7 but RS24 isn't on there and the list of available software isn't very clear about what each one does. I have suggested to my friend that she try the download for the VPC and XP for 7 to see if that works. If not, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks so much for your help with this guys, I couldn't have done this without you and would have been in meltdown by now. :j

Works only with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise.

Could you maybe buy a cheapie xp tower off local classifieds or ebay ? Stuff4sale, loot, gumtree even ebay ? They are from £25 up.
You could place a wanted add for one to buy or renew your borrow request.
